Victims of Psychopaths Community Group
Is he or she a sociopath or psychopath? Think we're only talking about serial killers here? Psychopaths, sociopaths and even narcissists come in every walk of life, every career level, and every socio-economic category.
You say she lives on the internet. Why?
She makes the world as she goes. Why?
Makes up stories changes character. Why?
try looking at her behaviour from a less hostile point of view and you may find answers that fit.
identity (or perhaps none at all).
I have a psycho neighbor--she moved in and attached herself (as they tend to
do) like a barnacle to me. And then proceeded to copy and compete with me
about everything, everything. At the end of it, she had stolen my life. She
copied my hair color, my landscaping, elbowed in on my friendships in the
neighborhood. She put me through almost 2 years of daily hell as she put
in a grandiose addition to her house--yelling, physical intimidation, lying, etc.
Upshot is, where before my main problem in the neighborhood was getting
around the block in under an hour, (because ALL the neighbors came out to
talk to me and chat), now? after the slander (she informed everyone of what
she did, but ascribed all of her actions to me) now my neighbors try and not
make eye contact and rarely wave. I no longer have trouble walking around
the block quickly as very few speak to me. When I tried to tell my side--it was
too late. She had prevailed, as she told me once, "I planned to do this all
along" and laughed so merrily when she said this. However, when she first
moved in everyone thought she was a creep, and boring as well.
Some people steal TV's, some people steal identities, some people steal other
people's lives. I've heard of other people having someone copy them in weird
ways, sometimes even their tattoos. And then claim it was originally their idea.
I think it could be considered a form of identity theft. I wonder how common it
is?
I'm not saying that this is what you're dealing with Aspin, but if you suspect it,
just be observant. If your gut says something is really off--pay attention. I had
my gut screaming about this woman, but at the time I was still in the dark about
psychopathy and other personality disorders, so I kept on making excuses for
her, while all along I simply became a host for her parasitic change of personality.
I think this person enjoys being unique...like the penultimate hipster: taking bits and pieces of her life, integrating it with things she reads about, fantasy, and finding common ground with it all to create new ways of percieving herself. This is both histrionic and narcissistic.
This leaves me with two possible conclusions: either I'm dead wrong, or the world is woefully lacking in its knowledge of these monsters.
just had to get that off my chest : )
I've heard of histrionic before, but I'm not sure what that is. Is it similar to
borderline, as I think they tend to be copiers too? I've had other people
copy me, but not to that degree, just the example above and some
"friends" claiming credit for ideas and info. Irritating but not as wholesale
as co-opting someone's diagnosis. That's kind of surreal.
You said that she lives on the internet. Well that doesnt say to me that she's a sociopath, i see that meaning her world is probably pretty small or she doesnt have anyone in real with whom she can confide in so she use's the net. And also most people do precieve the internet as being a safe place to meet people. But un-fortunately it really isnt but she probably doesn't have the luxury of having anywhere else to turn.
The intergrating her life with things she reads or fantasy is probably her way of escaping whats going on in her real life or she is doing it to mask/ confuse you to who she really is. Just when you think you have her figured out, she re-invents herself. People who have suffered from trauma or abuse also do this Aspin, not just sociopaths. Sounds to me like she is hurting herself more than she is hurting anyone else.
Anyways you probably will never get the validation you are looking for because its pretty unlikely she is going to fill in the missing gaps for you.
If im totally way off, then im totally way off, but thats just what im seeing here.
Histrionic Personality Disorder, HPD, is a sister to NPD (Narcissist). HPD is more or less "look at me" syndrome. It does frequently co-occur with BPD, but it is not the same thing.
I would like to add, however, that this, I beleive, is finally on its last legs.
obsession thing, even when I was burned by my psychopathic
neighbor and I couldn't even stomach the sight of her, I became pretty
obsessed about how she had copied me and spread all these crazy
lies. Also, that she had laughed and said that she had "planned the
whole thing".
Is that the kind of obsession that you're talking about?
couldn't believe she did what she did--it was traumatizing. And then
because no one believed me. That was the worst part. People still
take her side, even through her immediate neighbors now think she's
insane.
I was on that hamster wheel of obsessing too long, and I wish I hadn't
been, but as hindsight is 20/20, I guess I needed that obsession to alert
me to the reality of predatory people and the impossibility of relating to
people with personality disorders.
