Is he or she a sociopath or psychopath? Think we're only talking about serial killers here? Psychopaths, sociopaths and even narcissists come in every walk of life, every career level, and every socio-economic category.

I live next to a sociopath. Ever since I moved here he has seen me as an easy target. I am the only neighbor who's a single female living alone. The rest of the neighbors he doesn't even talk to. But from the moment I've moved here he's harassed me nonstop. First he wanted to control everything I did. Immediately, he didn't want me working on my house and would try to control that. Even when I was inside the house. Every wknd I'd have to deal with his bitching. It escalated to where he was screaming at me and not making any sense at all. He didn't think dust should be allowed to escape out of the window and float over the property line. Just insane stuff. I bent over backwards to try to make him happy so he'd leave me alone. Of course this was the wrong move when dealing with a sociopath but I didn't yet realize he was one at that point in time. I actually moved here to get away from a sociopath who was ultimately convicted of stalking me (a convicted felon and registered sex offender). All I wanted was to finally live in peace and then I immediately had another sociopath to deal with. So when it escalated to him screaming and becoming more and more belligerent, I realized he was dangerous and had a violent temper. I tried yet another way of making him happy by putting a tarp over the window, which he agreed to. That worked for only one weekend. Every complaint he'd have, I'd solve it, and he'd immediately come up with a new one. I quickly realized that his problem had nothing to do with me working on my house, but with his desire to control me. I refused to open the door to him anymore. He was out of control. So he decided that I couldn't ignore him, he demanded attention and would have his way. So he climbed a ladder, violently tore the tarp off my window, almost broke the storm window off my house, and climbed in the window to scream at me in my own living room. That was when I first called the cops on him. I no longer spoke to him or even acknowledged his existence from that point on (4 yrs ago). In my city, nothing is considered a crime, even though he committed 5 crimes that day, including probation violation as he was on probation at the time, everything is considered a "civil matter" and all they do is warn the criminal. Which of course only teaches him that he can get away with his crazy behavior which makes his behavior escalate. One day he parked a huge conversion van completely on my yard. I had to extend my fence to include my side yard to keep him from parking on it or climbing through the window again. He stopped directly confronting me at that point and resorted to vandalizing my property, stealing, trespassing some more (including climbing over my privacy fence into my backyard), constantly throwing his trash onto my front porch or over my fence into my yard, he throws stuff at my house and it hits the house and windows. He calls the bldg dept again and again to complain that I'm restoring my house and he doesn't think I should be allowed to, not that I've violated any code or done anything w/o a permit or anything like that, no crime or anything, just that I shouldn't be allowed to work on my house because he says so. This has been his issue all along. He can't stand that I'm able to work on houses and cars, etc, when he doesn't have any of these skills and thinks women are objects to be owned and controlled and shouldn't be allowed to do things like this. So he tells the building dept repeatedly that I "can't do this alone" when clearly I can and AM doing this alone. Maybe he doesn't want his wife knowing that women can live in freedom (he keeps her in the house 24/7). He behaves like a 5 yr old. Temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way. He's been arrested for failure to comply with basic house maintenance. He refuses because he says the city can't tell him what to do. He refuses to go to court. Doesn't pay taxes and then refuses to show for court for that as well, resulting in the max fine, over $4000. So we see these crazy patterns again and again. Yet the police do nothing. I'm even an auxiliary police officer in my city and they still don't do anything to help me w/ this. They tell me to buy a gun and call the cops every single time he does something. Well I don't have the time or patience to call the cops every single time. It's a huge stress and there's attitude from the dispatchers every time. They say they need to get like 10 things before they do anything. 10 crimes! There's been way more than 10 crimes so far but I've only called twice because I can't deal with it. I've had to buy a gun and set up surveillance cams. I have pictures, witnesses, saved a threatening note he left taped to my front door. The cops will never do anything in my city. That's just how it is here. I can't take matters into my own hands because i have a security clearance for my job that depends on a clean criminal record. But I can't go on living with this nutjob thinking he can do whatever he wants to me. It's been 4 yrs of this and that's 4 yrs too much. I need a plan on what to do next. How do I handle this situation? Moving is not an option (and wouldn't matter anyway as I seem to attract sociopaths wherever I go).

Wow, Agent Smith, I'm not sure what advice I can give, but just wanted you to know I hear your pain. Unfortunately, it seems there is little you can do to control his behavior that you haven't already done -- so perhaps the primary focus could be finding a way to minimize the emotional toll it is taking on you. I have struggled to maintain inner peace when others seemed determined to make life miserable for everyone around them -- and I can't say I've had much success -- but unfortunately the angrier we get, the more they win and the more we suffer. I tried to think of one of my crazy neighbors as a mosquito that kept interrupting my solitude. I would take deep breathes and try to accept that mosquitoes are an unfortunate reality, and that while their buzzing about is impacting me personally, their just doing what mosquitoes do -- and then I'd do my best to stay focused on what I do. I know that probably isn't much help, but felt compelled to give you my thoughts in case. Good luck and stay true to you.

Consult with an attorney on civil law. Preferable if can find one that specializes in neighbor issues; if can't find one like that; then look for real estate attorney. this can be extremely helpful for you. good luck!

I think you should watch out for him, and call 911 in any danger. I recently moved out of the house where a strange guy lived next to me, who later turned out to be a serial killer. Once he attacked me and wanted to rape me, but I managed to escape by stunning him with something heavy. After a while, he was detained. When we were in court, he came up with a very convincing alibi and professionally parried all my arguments. But it was in court, thanks to https://monmouthcountycriminallawyers.com/locations/middletown/ that what I wrote above was revealed. On account of several brutally murdered women. He was sent to prison for a very long time, but I moved out anyway
