I agree about the need to teach this in school. Some high schools have psychology courses as electives, but maybe it should be required. Assuming high school is our chance to develop a knowledgable citizenry and prepare kids for life (as many do not go to college and take different things once there), maybe psychology should be required in high school. And not just the old theory stuff, but a little on each area, especially developmental psychology and abnormal psychology. And not just the biggies like depression and anxiety, or various mental illnesses, but enough about personality disorders to recognize one when you see one. They can sure use current events as many examples!

I never took a psychology course, but probably no other course would have prepared me as well for life, as it turns out. Imagine the heartbreak and stress disorders that could have been prevented! And no course would allowed me to keep more money at the end of the day -- including earning and keeping what you earn, investing and keeping the gains from investments, not overspending, not paying for court cases and a divorce -- all the ways one ends up with money. People think other courses may prepare them more, but they could not be more wrong!

I hear you I have been on no contact for six months after six long years of a roller coaster ride. I struggle evryday not to weaken. I have made progress with my life. I knw if I get in touch with him it will probobly start all over again and nothing will change. Mine ( the latest ) was a heroin addict a thier a rapist and a con. I had some good chemistry and a lot of adventures with him. Both our lives were a mess and it got ugly at the end. I changed my phone number wont talk to anyone that has anything to do with him. Its cold turkey for me.. I dont think he was ever going to be a supportive affectionate person in the relationship. Beyond his capability. I as a result of all the damage from him and a series of them am detached and anxious about even dating. I make myself go on dates and get out there. I know the pain though is horrific. I lost my Mom at the same time I lost him and my home my income everything. Too many losses at one time. Super tough period emotionally

I agree too, everyone should be teached about this disorder, because everyone will meet at least one in their lifetime. Its ruin lives and its horrible.

Till now we only have media who shows programs about these people, but they are murderers and rapists, at the worst scale of the disorder. Few know about how sociopaths are a every day life...around us, close to us.

Escape: I took a course in high school for Psychology, and they don't teach students about disorders. They talk mostly about dreams and hypnotism. Now that I'm in college, the Psychology course here does talk about mental disorders. I wish this was applied in high schools instead of the dreams and hypnotisms. I think they do this in high school to make it interesting to students.

Yes AgentSmith, I'm totally with you here. Why people are so aware less of this illness? The majority of us are fed with whatever media wants to feed us when it comes to sociopathy, meaning serial killers. That's it; period. You have no clue that a sociopath is a sheep walking around in wolf's clothes and can provoke incommensurable wreak in somebody's life: emotional, financial, physical. On the other hand, what it can be done? There is no cure for such thing. Psychiatrist, and psychologist along gave up on them because they are simply unfixable. It's truly a very sensitive issue.

"Abnormal Psychology" and "Childhood Development" are what they should teach. One class about PD's and another about how environment affects how we perceive the world. "Abnormal Psychology" would help kids recognize PD's if their parents have one, and "Childhood Development" would help them learn how it may have affected them. I took these two classes in college and they helped somewhat. (Clearly not enuf though.)

@Johnny, hang in there. "It really does get easier." I had to repeat this to myself everytime a motorcycle drove by this evening while I was out having a patio dinner with my gf's. I miss him so much it hurts, but I know I have to stay strong and that if I do, it will get easier. But it's heart wrenching getting to that point. :(

Thanks onthemend101. I had a rough weekend . I broke down and called him on friday.He answered but couldn't talk. I remembered when we first me he would get calls, answer them, and say "I cant talk now". He could have easily let my call go to voice mail, but he chose to answer and then dismiss me. I was depressed all weekend. Then on Monday he texed me @ 3:33 (3:33 was an inside joke we had) and wished me a happy memorial day. What an idiot. He doesn't have time to talk to me but can wait to precisely 3:33 to send a text? jerk. I'm starting to get over it. I hope:) Today was great for me, was busy all day with work and work associates. It felt good not to be thinking about the parasite all day.

@Johnny, It's a good idea to take a break and focus on life for awhile. As Alanis Morrisette said, "Enough about you. Let's talk about life for awhile." :) Do some volunteer work, get back to your life and what you love to do.
