Victims of Psychopaths Community Group

Is he or she a sociopath or psychopath? Think we're only talking about serial killers here? Psychopaths, sociopaths and even narcissists come in every walk of life, every career level, and every socio-economic category.

I was recently victimized by a Catfish, a woman pretending to be younger, more attractive, wealthier and more in need of medical care than was true. In fact, this person used pictures and videos from others' websites to lure me in, along with either false or exaggerated stories of the suffering she'd encountered. I have found out that she has done the same thing to others.

Is this "Catfish" a psychopath or sociopath? If so, should I attempt to feel compassion for her. Or is she just a liar, who should be despised? This is all very new to me and extremely confusing.

just learn from this experience and im glad you didnt have to lose everything. dont be so hard on yourself these people are master manipulators and do this to many many intelligent people.

Compassion is one thing. Allowing a deceitful person into your life is a whole different ball of wax. You can feel compassion from afar. Whether she's a psyco/socio/borderline/alien from another galaxy....makes no difference what they are labeled. The behavior is similar. Deceit is deceit.
My gut tells me she is a parasite. I'm no doctor but i'd venture a guess that she has histrionic personality disorder. And she's not even worth the energy to despise. Personally, i have zero compassion for liars. I only have compassion for those who have compassion..

Good advice, Peacedreams. I agree. It's not about compassion now. It is about isolation of a pathological person. I believe she is delusional, but that does not excuse the lies and the manipulation, all of which was calculated. She is capable of rational behavior even if her defining quality is insanity.

dont ever excuse the lies and deciet. delusional or not your catfish knows exactly what she has done and doesnt feel any thing about it. well except a thrill at your cost. dont ever think they dont. they may be insane or crazy but they are smart when it comes to conning and blaming people. a sociopath and a psychopath are pretty much the same thing. like richie says dont bother with the label they are all parasites. emotional vampires. look that one up youll find a lot of information right there too.

I'm sure you are right, Bella. I feel as if it would be healthy for me to forgive. But how can you forgive someone who refuses to acknowledge that they have done something wrong? Mainly, I need to forgive myself for being taken advantage of. That is even harder to do.

There are so many wonderful people online - you just have to be careful and go slowly. I have several friends who have met and married people they met on eHarmony and Match.com.

The woman sounds nuts. Take a ride on your bike or go to your local coffee shop and start meeting people in your area. People love to introduce their friends to a great guy. Don't let this experience get you down - you have a great life ahead of you.
