A veteran often refers to retired armed services personnel, one one who has served in the armed forces and has an honorable discharge. Join many others in sharing your experiences to find support.

We're celebrating Fourth of July on DailyStrength by recognizing Veterans, and we thought we might reach out to the community to see if anyone would like to share a story about their experience or a concern relating to being a Veteran.
PM me if you or someone you know might have something you would like to share and I'll reply to talk to you about your story. We've not done anything like this in the past, so consider this a "feeler" rather than an actual call for stories :)
Ultimately, we're looking for something that will be enlightening, inspiring, and helpful to our membership, and we're also staying away from political slants for obvious reasons. :)
Also let us know your thoughts about the idea of featuring a DS member's story in themes like these for the future. We think that it would be a good idea to highlight some of the amazing stories we've read here on the site from our members who have experienced so much, and help those members share their stories with people who might be going through the same thing. What do you think?

Hi there, great question!
This is a story that will be featured in our "Experts" section, alongside other articles written by our Experts and writers, all hosted on a special landing page created especially for the Fourth of July. We're experimenting with site-wide events like these (not only focusing on US holidays, we have other international holidays on the calendar as well), and we think having some of our members contribute as well would be a nice addition.
In terms of ownership, these stories can be published a few different ways:
- We link to your journal entry. If you write or have an amazing story in your journal entry, we can simply link to your journal from our landing page. The content is yours, you can do whatever you like with it. We just ask that you keep your profile and your journal public so that the link won't be dead.
- You write a separate article that will be published in our Experts section. I will personally be working with the contributor to help edit and give constructive editorial advice in this format, but the content is yours to repost, republish, and do what you want with.
- You can tell us your story, and we can write your story for you, and make sure you are able to see and edit it before it goes live.
- We can do an online interview, and again you are able to see and edit it before it goes live.
