This is for Christians who would like to study the Bible verse by verse. I will start with Genesis 1:1 and each day post 1 verse which we can then discuss....reflect, apply etc.
Thanks Carolyn. Yes, I like to try to picture God when there was no heaven and earth. I guess there was just eternal light everywhere because God is light. i think God has a tremendous creativity and sense of humor with all the little detail he put into the earth. I wonder how much detail he put into the heaven?
"And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."
IT amazed me how the Old Testament and New Testament have so much in common..the symbolism that is. I think of this dark void much like our hearts before we come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. There is emptiness in our hearts.
Another neat word picture. God must have on purpose made the earth dark because if he had not, it would have automatically been filled with his light. It seems that his original plan was to have a place where his presence was removed for a time so he could put himself into it however he wanted to. I think he is also teaching us something about creating something. It reminds me of an artist taking paints and just putting the paint blobs on the canvas so there is something there, then he has something to refine and turn into a work of art. It seems this is how God started making the earth. Neat, huh?
I see symbalism here too. God divided light from darkness...much like he kicked LUcifer out of Heaven thus seperating the Prince of LIght (Jesus) from teh Prince of darkness (Satan)
See, here he is, putting himself into the universe with light. :) And separating the light from the darkness. And then we tiny human beings come along and think WE get to decide what is right and wrong, especially for everyone else! How about we just stick to what God decided and focus on trying to understand him instead of trying to play God all the time! Did you ever hear how to make God laugh? Tell him your plan. :)
I was not able to get on the here the last few days, so on days this happens I'll post a few verses together to catch us up. So we have 4 days gone by so 4 verses:
Genesis 1:5-8 " 5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day."
I am enjoying this story. In some ways it reminds me of a suspense thriller. Everything he makes builds on each other until we are hanging on the edge of our seats wondering what comes next. Even if we were reading this for the first time, we could already tell this is leading up to a crowning ending of some type. We can tell God is having fun with this! :) I love it!
