Hi Janine. I know that I am a long time replying but I have only just found the Daily Strength website. My situation is a bit different to yours but I know how you are feeling. I was emotionally and verbally abused by my father for a very long time. You MUST NOT believe what your boyfriend says. He is the one with the problem, not you. If you can get away from him you must. I know it is hard, especially as you have children, but you deserve so much better. I left home as soon as I could, and even though he threatened to kill me I got away and made a new life. Thank you so very much for replying. It's nice to have people to talk to that have gone thru the same as you . This web site has helped me so much. Im sorry that you had to go thru that with your own father but I can understand I do not speak to my father and have no worry about him at all . It's just sad that my kids will never know there grandfather. Family is important to me and it just plan sucks. Things have been getting a little better at home with my boyfriend . He is back to work and seems to have a attitude adjustment. There are times that he does have his little comments to say but I have learned not to take what he says to heart. It is very hard to leave . I did leave once but fell for his old tricks once again . Im getting thru it but there are times were I think Im not. I would love to hear from you again. This is a great website. You sometimes think you are crazy and that you are the only one, but its good to know that you aren't alone. I'm glad that things are a little better for you, and I hope that they continue to get better.Hopefully now that your boyfriend is working again he will be better. Leaving is very hard to do, it took me a long time to do it, and a lot of strength to keep going afterwards. I don't have any children yet although I hope I will, but I know how important a family is. If you can stay together and make things better between you, then that is a good thing. You just have to keep remembering that you are a good person and be strong when he makes his comments. I know that's easier said than done. Always get in touch whenever you need to talk.
