Of course, the easiest and healthiest veggie burger is a grilled portobello mushroom cap. They're even better if you marinate them in soy sauce and balsamic vinegar fr a few hours prior to grilling.
I LIKE the taste of meat, I don't eat meat because of the cruelty to animals issue, along with health concerns but if I'm going to make a fake meat it had better taste good.
Most of the time I end up buying TVP and then seasoning it like I would hamburger for taco's or spagetti sauces...along with a few other things Ive tried. First few times I made the taco stuff no one in my family even knew it wasn't meat, then my daughter had to ask because she knew I'd planned on going vegan. Hubby still hasn't got a clue it's not beef
The only place I have found is in the health food store or online.
I just eat fruits, veggies, nuts, beans, breads, etc.
I'm not criticizing those who choose to use meat substitutes.
I'm just giving the perspective that they are not required.
Have you tried Boca products? In my experience they are much closer to tasting like meat than the Morningstar brand. In fact I was eating some Boca breakfast links and had to run back to the freezer and check the box to make sure I hadn't bought real sausage by mistake!
Boca is another supermarket brand of "faux" meat, I usually see it stored right next to the Morningstar stuff. I don't imagine you'll have a hard time finding it.
The burgers are ok, they remind me of fast food Burger King-type burgers but they make several styles. I like their fake chicken patties too, but the sausage links are uncanny.
TVP is a good material to simulate meat, but I think it's a more suitable substitute for chicken than other meats.
I have also had some yummy fake meatloaf, kielbasa etc. from places like Whole Foods. They use good quality ingredients, they're just not cheap!
