1. I take vitamins and iron pills everyday which seem to help with the cravings because my body has everything it needs.
2. Use a healthy reward system; for example, if i don't eat meat, i can have something I love (that is healthy ofcourse) for dessert. I usually use grapes because I love them so much. Strawberries work well too!
I don't think the temptation comes from being around the meat, but is driven more by my own lacking in nutrition. Yeah I caved in a had a few bites this weekend, and I'm not beating myself up about it. I am determined to put my nutrition as a higher priority so this option is less appealing.
For me, what I eat in a week would range from simple veggies with salt and pepper to vegetable tempura to Korean crystal noodles to meat-free vegan nuggets to Indian curry to vegan burger. For breakfast, I have cereal with different kinds of milk (soy, hazelnut, almond) or toast with different kinds of spread (vegetable-based margarine, peanut butter and jelly, fruit jams, chocolate spreads etc).
Because I eat different kinds of food all the time, I hardly experience any craving. Hope it helps!
I suggest eating quorn (chicken style), I in fact used this in a sanddwich I made the other week for my chicken-loving boyfriend. I told him I was making him a chicken sandwich for his lunch (wasn't a lie- turned out there wasn't enough left over to use) so I made it out of quorn chicken and he went off to work. At lunch he text me complimenting the sandwich, never mentioned it tasted any different.
Later, I told him and he said he "thought it tasted different- just drier." He liked it and even admitted that he could go without chicken if he ate that!! SUCCESS!!
Perhaps try that, put mayonnaise in it, or salad things if you think the quorn is too dry, to give it more flavour too. Even try using it in other recipes, like a quorn chicken curry, my mum made one not long ago and I don't think you'd notice a difference!
Good luck and have fun tasting different foods.
