Ok, I have the hardest time finding cheese that's vegetarian friendly. I'm not vegan and don't plan on going vegan any time soon. (Maybe one day but not right now.) I hate the thought of eating out (or even at home) and not knowing what cheeses are veg!

Does anyone else have this problem? I don't want to have to call every freakin company to find out if their rennet is microbial. :(

this link below seems to highlight all the mass produced plant-based rennet cheeses.

it lists the company's by state, so hopefully you can find a corresponding co. and avoid special or out-of-state ordering.

So... I've read that if the ingredients state "microbial enzymes" that means a plant (not animal) source.

I looked it up and the Publix cheese I buy for the kids uses microbial enzymes. Also, it uses corn starch instead of cellulose (which is wood-pulp). Good stuff!

If you have a Publix near you, I recommend!

Yeah oooo I have Publix & Kroger. I know a lot of Kroger brand cheese is microbial based rennet. There are some exceptions. The hard part is a lot of them don't specify so it's hard to tell without contacting the companies.

I think microbial is spelled out but not animal as microbial is a sellling point. I buy trader joes tillamook cheddar. So good.

I have an obnoxious PSA (I'm sorry, but maybe you'll find it useful!) If you are a huge cheese fan as I was when I ate real cheese, keep a close eye on your iron levels because dairy interferes with iron absorption!

That's interestibg...Meat interferes with calciym absorption, wich is another reason not to eat it.

cheese - the great seducer. It is absolutely the hardest thing for me to give up....

my favorite cheese humboldt fog.....sweet baby jesus. Definitely not on the vegan plan.....but when I fall off the wagon you will find me in the stinky cheese section
