So, I found out today that I have Stage 1 Uterine Cancer..
Well, technically, I "had" it.
I had a Hysteroscopic Myomectomy 2 weeks ago to remove (what they thought at the time to be) fibroids and a polyp. When the dr. got in there, he realized there were no fibroids, only clusters & clusters of polyps.
I'm only 27 (as of last month) and he was VERY comfortable in telling me that he wasn't worried about cancer because it is very rare for these polyps to be cancerous and if they are, it is usually women MUCH older than me. Not a 27 year old!
Well, he was wrong! They sent my slides to a guy at Harvard who confirmed that they were cancerous cells. The good news is, they are pretty sure they got them all since they were encompassed in polyp tissue.
My OB/GYN is sending me to a Gynecologic Oncologist for the next plan of action, but he told me that most likely they will just do Hormone Therapy and I will need special testing each year (a biopsy) but otherwise, no chemo, no radiation, no hysterectomy, etc.
I'm curious if any other Stage 1 survivors have had any of the above treatments? Or cancer in polyps like I have/had?
Everything I'm finding online says that Stage 1 is treated with a hysterectomy, but he doesn't want to do one because I'm so young.

I'm a stage 1a survivor. I was diagnosed last Jan. and had a Hysterectomy in Feb. I also ended up doing three rounds of Chemo due to cells being found in my pelvic area after the surgery. I've just passed my one-year mark and am feeling well.
It's really rare that someone your age would have Endo cancer but it's becoming more common these days for some reason. I'm a lot older than you (57, the average age this is diagnosed).
I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing that there could still be cancer floating around inside of me. My Gyn told me that he was pretty sure that I just had fibroids or polyps at first (after I had the D & C) He was actually shocked that it turned out to be cancer. He told me that I had to have the Hysterectomy, no choice in the matter.
My mother had what they called "pre-cancer" cells in her uterus when she was around 30-31 (back in the 60's) and they told her she had to have a Hysterectomy (but they did let her keep her ovaries). She already had me and my brother by then.
They probably did get all (or most) of the cancer cells when they did your Hysterscopy. And maybe the hormone treatments will keep any cancer from prosgressing or coming back. It's a hard decision to make and only one that you and your Gyn/onc can make together.
My cancer was confined to the uterus-no spread into the lining or anywhere. The cells that were found outside in my pelvic region were believed to have been spread when I had my D & C /Hysterscopy. This happens very rarely (about 10 %).
I sure wish you the best with whatever decision you make and pray that those cancer cells are gone and never come back ! Please let me know what you decide or if you just want to share anything else or have any questions.
