I am 43 and have a foley that I've used for a few months. Personally, I hate the leg bags and only use the night bag 24/7. I have a string that I wear around my neck and hang the bag lower than my bladder so I can walk around easily during the day. I also wear a long skirt to cover everything up. Unless your dad is really active, you don't really have to change out the bags.

I have a leg bag fixed to my catheter permanently (except when my catheter is changed every 12 weeks). When going to bed, a larger night bag is attached to my leg bag and detached from it when I get up. Attaching and detaching the night bag is no more than pushing two tubes together or pulling them apart. Whoever does this does have to be careful to put the taps on the leg bag in the correct position (open when attached to the night bag, closed when not attached).

We used the foley catheter system for years. The leg bag irritated My skin. So My caregivers or husband just hung the bag on the side of the bed. when I was in bed or between My legs under My dress when I was in a wheelchair. I still had problems somewhat with leaks or when the bag was changed. So I layed on a incontinence pad. I'm quadriplegic and have bowel incontinence as well. So I often wore a incontinence brief anyway. when I was out of bed in My chair. Normally the bag was changed early morning first thing. Then around noon. And after dinner. And before sleep. I had years of issues with UTIs so eventually as My condition progressed I had to give into adult diapers full time for bowel and bladder incontinence.
