. I feel embarrassed because I need to wear a diaper. When I'm in bed I don't feel to bad except when my caregiver steps in to change my pad and diaper. Escpeccialy in a wheelchair. I weigh 110 pounds and am skinny. My underpad covers the whole chair. While I cover half. It is very visible. One time when I was in my chair in the streets people were staring. I figured out the top of my diaper was sticking out so I needed to cover it ASAP. When I am out in public it is mostly with my caregiver. We sometimes go to get food. Since I require to be fed(I have trouble swallowing and chewing) I need a disposable bibs hitch doesn't cover my laps and they get messy. The only choice I have is to put a disposable underpad onto my laps. Everyone saw my caregiver putting my bib on and the pad. What were your experiences
My CP doesn't seem to be as severe as your disability, as I don't need a caregiver to feed me and change my nappies (diapers). I also don't drool so I don't need a bib when I am eating. From what you say about needing an underpad to cover the seat of your wheelchair, it would seem that your diapers don't provide adequate protection, so they tend to leak. My reusable shaped terry nappies when worn with waterproof polyurethane pants almost never leak, so I don't need underpads. Also, I always wear clothes (including loose fitting trousers or shorts) that totally cover my nappy when I am out in my wheelchair, so it is never visible and I rarely get stared at because people are used to seeing someone in a wheelchair.
