You can usually roll them up and put it with normal household trash.

We have a trash can with a cover in My bedroom. My husband or caregivers put them in that. And then near the end of the day My husband will usually take the trash out to the outside trash can. And put a fresh trash bag in. But I guess with being home and stuck in My room so much more then usual. I'm starting to notice the smells more.

I have never noticed any problems with putting my used leg bags (for my suprapubic catheter) and incontinence pads in the household rubbish bag,

When I first became incontinent I used one like that. The one bad thing about these is that you have to use their liners, you can't just go to any store and buy them. The liners are one long tube of plastic. You have to tie the end and when the bin is full, there is a cutter inside that cuts the plastic and then you tie the top shut, it creates like a tube of used diapers. it does help on odor but in the long run I stopped using it because not being able to just run to the store to get the liners. I found at the dollar tree scented 4gal trash bags that I wrap each of my diapers in one and put in normal trash.

Thats something to think about. Actually I hate dwelling on it at all. My caregiver talked with My husband about it. I don't think they have ordered one. Usually they just wrap the used briefs up in a plastic grocery bag and throw in the trash until the end of the day.

But I will have days where for various reasons I really can't get out of bed. And towards the end of the day. I really notice the smell. Many times if I have a bowel accident. My caregiver will take the soiled briefs and bed pad straight to the oustide trash at least.

Hi Brandie. I second the dollar tree bags idea. My wife is in a very advanced stage of ALS. And is doubly incontinent. We use a 10 gallon pail with scented trash bags. And wrap the used briefs pads wipes etc in the cheap scented bags. The pail has a pretty good top on it as well. That clips it closed. I change the pails main bag out normally once a day or two as well. With incontinence and other issues We deal with. There will be smells. But We try to deal with them as they come. And keep Her clean and comfortable as possible.

Thank You William. So sorry about Your wife. And god bless You for taking care of Her. ALS is such a awful disease. I have been around people with ALS during My many hospitalizations. My condition is similar as a survivor of a brain stem stroke during pregnancy. And primary progressive MS. As alarming and awful as it is to lose control of ones bodily functions. Its even worse to experience loss of control of Your body completely. I'm a complete quadriplegic. And I need a ventilator to breath at night and some days. I can still comunicate. Use the computer and a few other things. But some days are worse then others.

Thank You very much Brandie. I'm home taking care of Her today. Our caregiver could not make it today. She uses eye gaze computer software and screen to communicate as much as She can. So its getting a little better. Before We had that it was a nightmare for Her especially for almost a year. We have had so many problems with Her breathing. Muscle pain and spasms. Sometimes it makes the incontinence seem like a minor thing. But I know it bothers Her and can be really depressing. Especially when She has leaked onto Her chair or bed. And even had a few times when a really bad bowel accident blow out onto Her chair. We try to keep Her mind active with other things.

So sorry. I know its tough. I have good days and bad days Myself. One thing We learned about incontinece in the hospital. Was in bed. You don't always need to wear a brief. A lot of times. During the day. If I am in bed. I don't wear anything. I just lay on a bed pad. If I urinate or worse. My caregiver can just roll Me to the side clean Me and change the pad. Its better for My skin too. So I really only use briefs through the night. Or when I am in My chair. As far as leaks go. Unfortunately. With full incontinence. Sooner or later it seems. Somehow something will leak or as You said blowout. Ugghh I hate that. If I am in My chair and We leave the house. Which I am rarely able to do anymore. You probably know. Its hard to find a bathroon or place to deal with a disabled persons bathroom needs. My husband or caregiver will put Me in a overnight brief with a booster pad. Or maybe even a extra overnight brief the next size larger then I need over the first one. Then I can stay out for 4 to 6 hrs withought needing to be changed. Unless I have a bowel accident.

Hi Brandie. Yes She spends most of Her time in bed at this point. Its just easier that way. But We try to get Her up in Her chair at least a couple hours most days. Unless Her spasms are bad. The bowel accidents are the worst in Her chair though. It seems like the time She's most likely to have a leak. Yesterday morning was awful for Her first thing She had a major bowel accident and the diaper leaked into Her tights and seat. I hate it for Her. We try to keep Her mind off of it and not talk about it in front of Her.

I'm so sorry William. And its awful for Her. I would suggest for Her to not wear tights. I wear compression leggings just thigh high though. That way it does not compress the brief to the point the stool might leak. Also sitting on a doughnut style wheelchair seat cushion helps. As well as a incontinence pad.

I have a garbage can in the room my bed room for when I change my diaper but I make sure to empty it everyday to avoid the odor as I both bladder and bowel incontinent.
