I make a point of checking and if necessary changing every four hours especially at work to avoid any embarrassing leaks. I also always change unto a dry diaper/ nappy before long journeys, meetings or the cinema. Much depends of course on the absorbency of the nappy and the frequency of wetting.

This is not fun, especially when you are young! When to change is really a very individual choice. If you are already into your nightime diaper then it really depends on how absorbent it is for you. I use a super absorbent diaper like a Molicare Super plus, Abena M-4, Tena Super Brief or a Northshore Care Supreme. (http://www.northshorecare.com/northshore-airsupreme-briefs.html) Those diapers can hold quite a bit and if you are using something like those, you should be fine until the morning. I have worn some of those for an evening and all night without leaks. If you are not using something that is that absorbent, then you may want to change before going to sleep.

I also wear a waterproof pant over the diaper to prevent any leaks from getting my bed wet. I tried many different diapers before finding what works for me. Let us know more about what kind of protection you are using and we can give you more specific answers to your question.

My mum used to change me when i first had to wear as a bedwetter and then full time. It was always a fixed cycle. Now she does help but less and I keep and eye on the clock or the indicator as to when to change.

I'm disabled to the point of needing a caregiver 24/7. My husband handles taking care of Me at night and weekends. As well as several homecare attendents during the days. My sister and mother help as well from time to time. I was in a longterm care facility for about 11 months last year. As well as spending months in the hospital. I'm completely incontinent. In the hospital or nursing home. They tended to have Me on a schedule. Where My brief was changed every three to four hours. Or sooner if I had a bowel event. At home its more as needed. Or right before bed. My husband places Me in a overnight brief with a booster pad. He has to get up several times a night to check on My ventilator/breathing. Blood pressure monitor etc. So He will check My brief as well. If I have had a bowel event He will change Me. If not I usually make it until morning before needing changed. Early morning often is My worst time. When My bladder and bowel is most active. I need to use a feeding tube and will often have a bowel movement very shortly after that. So We tend to use the overnight briefs and booster pads through the morning as well. After lunch I can normally get by with a regular brief. I rarely get out anymore. And finding a place to change a adult in a motorized wheelchair , ventilator etc is a major production. So if We do leave. Its never for more then a few hours. And we use the overnight briefs/boosters and a incontinence pad for My wheelchair. To keep Me until We get home. Finding what works for You. Through trial & error. For You and Your caregivers etc. After 23 years of progressive disability. I can tell some terribly embarrassing stories regarding incontinence as well as life in general.
