Hi sophelle , my name is chris. Im 22, and because of a traffic accident, i suffer from stress incontinence. Its quite bad, meaning i cant go abour withour protective means. You are doing very well to even talk openly on here and i admire that. Really cannot be easy, especially for a 15 year old, let alone anyone else. Your not alone, whoch is whats nice about this site :) i know little about the back end, but the urinary, have you considered or been advised of pelvic floor exercises. Its no guarenteed solution and requires a lot of determination on your behalf.l, but it can help nonetheless. Quite possibly it could even help your other problem :) You may already be aware of these, if so, im sorry for wasting your time. Life style habots need to be adjusted, such as what you eat as well. That may help. My last bit of advice is to just keep smiling :) try not to let it bring you down. I know thats easier said than done.

Though I have not gone through what you are going through now, I know somewhat what you are feeling. A couple months ago I was hit with a virus that made m legs and back very weak and made me unable to change myself. It was very humiliating at first when I had to have others help me to change. It only lasted about three weeks that I could not change myself but in that time I did my best to cope. I tried to not think about it when I was getting changes. It helps when you talk about stuff when you are distracted b what is going on. My caregivers often joked with me or talked about things that got my mind off them changing me. Also My life has been greatly altered by my incontinence. I can not do much of anything that I used to and when I do try and do things it takes great planning. Also I was thinking, there may be a way to get some sort of Aide to come in and help out so that you can give your aunt a break. It may help you feel less of a burden. And like Chris says Just keep smiling and look on the bright side. There is always something good to find in the midst of the bad, even if you do not see that now. Also know that God loves you and cares for you and also you have friends here. Hope you have a better day.

Hi Sophelle. Welcome to our group. I'm a disabled mother of 3. I have been semi quadraplegic and needing fulltime care for almost 12 years now. Its easy to feel like a burden and get down. My family, nurses and friends have been very supportive. But still its not easy. The internet is a lifesaver for Me. Needing somebody to change your protection is horribly embarassing at Your age or any age. I don't get out much anymore. When I do its with My mother or homecare nurse. My husband or sister help as well. Thankfully over the last 12 years its been quite rare that I needed to be changed in a public restroom etc, Some places like malls have special family restrooms with facilitys for the disabled etc. These are life savers as well in a emergency situation. Wearing heavy protection (full briefs & booster pads) Will allow you to stay out for quite awhile before a change is necsassary. Thats what We do , So unless I have a bowel event We generally wait til we get home to change Me. Usually We can generally tell when My bowel is most active in the early morning and schedule any activities around that. I have a degenerative bone disease as well so I have had several hip and pelvic fractures over the last 12 years. Spica casts and bed confinement is no fun either. Add the incontinence etc its really been rough at times. At this point I'm doing better. My condition is stable. I can use My fingers & talk. Move my head etc. I'm in a motorized wheelchair. I'm doubly incontinent but thats been an improvement over a never ending UTI & horrific constipation and continuely needed a nurse to manually deal with that. Even within My family and caregivers We manage to joke a bit about it. Humor helps. I hope things get better soon for You.

I think you should feel lucky having someone who cares for you in such a lovely manner. From my care for my daughter I know that it is a lot of work and effort caring for a teenager suffering from bladder and bowel incontinence.
Luckily your aunt and her girlfriend can alternate and plan who changes your diaper. I understand that you would be capable of changing yourself but the fact that they both keep changing you let me think that it is absolutely no burden for them and they do it with love. Have you heard any complaint so far? If not I would not be worried at all. I also believe that they like it and you may be some sort of baby for them that they can care for and lavish with love. I would recommend that as long as you get not embarrassed you should enjoy just it. If you feel embarrassed for example when your aunt or girlfriend wants to change you in a public space you should tell them and I am sure they understand.
