why is it people with incontinence are judge differently?my primery doctors doesn't think i shouldn't be wearing diapers because of my age i guess?he told me to try pull ups,they don't work at all for me.the only thing that help me is wear diapers.my thing is that no body belives me when it comes to my incontinence.it seem that i get the run around on how to treat it.every urologists i been to told me that i'm to young to have this problem and i shouldn't be in diapers.they don't have an answer for me.the urologists i see now understands what i'm going through somewhat.what i need is some understanding for what i'm going through everyday. is there anyone out there who understand what i'm talking about. please help me out!!! thanks jamie
I can relate. I know where you're coming from.
It is frustrating and discouraging when the doctors who are supposed to be the experts, give us vague or non-committal answers.
My incontinence was the result of a spinal tumor which damaged nerves. But when my urologist said I would be a good candidate for artificial sphincter surgery, I was enthused. It wasn't until I pushed for the facts / reality of it that discouraged me.
1) The cost would be around $20,000 to $25,000.
2) Insurance would not pay for the surgery.
3) And this is the one that really rankled me. I was told that no surgery is guaranteed and at best I still would have to use pads because the surgery couldn't fix it completely.
Needless to say I did not opt for the surgery.
I use pull ups and pads every day.
I use a penile clamp when I go to work with a pad as backup in case the clamp loosens during the day.
