Thank you very much. Yes, going back to job hunt is hard and interview is always a gamble, but I was amazed that she would do this to a prospective client. Within 24 hours, I was OUT and that is hard, but I am happier NOW than before. Much appreciated

I agree.. I think that there's a sense that unemployed people should be willing to take any job that's offered to them. It's kind of like once you lose your job, people think that you no longer should be treated with dignity and should just go along with whatever you're told.

I was recently contracted by a recruiter about a contract job near my home. He told me it would only be about 30 hours a week, and I was o.k. with that. After he spoke with the hiring manager, he called me back and told me that she was interested in speaking with me. But there was one problem: the company was expanding, and they had limited space. So would I be willing to share a desk with someone, or, better yet, work from 3-8 each day?

I was o.k. with sharing a desk. But the 3-8 thing wasn't going to work. It basically would mean that my husband would have to pick my son up every night-- something that's hard to do since he's often on-call and has to work late frequently. And because I would need to take my son to daycare in the morning rather than dropping him off there during nap time, I'd rarely see him. It just wasn't going to work for our family. For a permanent position or long-term full time contract, we would have made it work. But I couldn't make permanent changes for a short-term contract. I also emphasized with the recruiter that my job was still to find a permanent position, and I didn't want the company to be upset if I left a month into the contract. (I had that issue with the last contract job I was in).

Haven't heard a thing from the recruiter since then. Perhaps it was a poor decision on my part.

Recruiters are a funny lot. Having moved to Atlanta last year, I learned through one bad experience to appreciate the road and traffic network, although I know it is BAD here, I had no idea of the reality of certain zones. Picked up a job in mid-town last year and it involved driving to Sandy Springs, no easy time on that drive in morning commute, then Marta transit into Atlanta and then a walk to the job, which would mean 5:30 am departure from home at the best and probable 8:30 pm arrival back, so life would not exist. I did not go there and limit my search to anything NORTH of the perimeter road, 285, that goes around the city itself. ONCE you inside of that road, life becomes .... difficult.

Oh, the recruiter hated me for a time and it took some effort to regain trust.

The good interview went nowhere. Ah, so another door....

Keep trying. I took a job I hate just til I find one I do like and pays enough. Gotta survive. But I know what you are saying about the long time it takes to get to work, and then put in a long day and get home in time to pretty much go to bed to do it again. It is no life and I won't do it long either.

I have had 2 more interviews lately on my days off, and another one tomorrow. Not encouraged by any of them, but I hate the 12 hour shifts and the drive so checking out my options.

I am finding myself in a similar situation. I have started the job I posted about a little while back. The problem is that for some reason the owner has decided that the sales manager has to review the editorial side of things. She has no CLUE what she is doing. She deleted references for several things I wrote when the journalist and I had made it clear that we have to cite sources for all the information we pubish. Now she started sending things back to me with her supposed helpful comments that only show how little she understands what I am trying to do.

ln theory, she's at the same level as I am in the business, but it sure doesn't feel like it. Unfortunately, she and the owner go way back; they worked together for years. So, I have to be careful how I go about complaining about her.

HAHAHAHA - found another job with a SUPERIOR managed services firm, but it too is a total joke. I am working but in it for the money WANT OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Stress is through the roof, my meds are, I hope, effective and working in a super stress job because the owner does not give a damn and we have a brain dead KID on staff who KNOWS NOTHING and gets rewards. I am soooo depressed about this and job in general. Working at Walmart would be better. Asking wife to hide the medicines that are bad tonight. I AM THAT DEPRESSED.....

Oh, sometimes I wonder if I should have said YES and to hell with ethics.

I took a part-time position because I need the work and don't have other options at the moment. It was working for someone I have done consulting for before, so I thought it wouldn't be so bad. Now I'm regretting it.

It turns out he's a disaster managing larger groups of people. I spend so much time answering the same questions for the GM because he is so disorganized. Then, there is one guy that is really lazy and never does anything useful. He promises things but always has an excuse and then doesn't come to the meetings, leaving the rest of us to explain to the GM that he isn't doing his job. For some reason he is still kept around and treated like he's so special by the GM

In the meantime, I agreed to part-time and he keeps piling on more responsibilities. I was promised a raise after 3 months once clients started paying, but that hasn't come through so far. After I complained, he finally promised 20% more next month (less than we agreed initially). I accepted a pretty low salary to start out because it is a new company, but I can't take that indefinitely. The same is going on with a co-worker. She told me she was on the verge of quitting until the GM agreed to take on some of her responsibilities since he hasn't given her the promised raise either and he keeps asking her to do more and more.

I still figure like I should stick around for a while. I don't see much else out there for me. Plus, the experience looks good on my resume, while it would look bad to only have stayed at this job for a few months.

Why can't a letter arrive saying I have a big inheritance coming my way?
