I have been unemployed since the end of 08. I received unemployment benefits right away and started going back to school full time all of 09 so in 09 I didn't really look too hard for work. Well my unemployment ran out last september and months prior to that I started looking for jobs. I went to school for graphic design and that is what i was doing for work from about 03 to 08. I know graphic design is saturated and a tough field to be in but I thought from my five year work experience in the field I would have an advantage. That does not seem to be the case. I have applied everyday online, I have literally sent out hundreds of resumes, 95 percent of the time I never get a response, out of applying for jobs everyday for about a year I have only landed two interviews only to not get the job. This is crazy! I worked steady from when I was about 16 up until a little over two years ago. Since I have lost my unemployment benefits I have been forced to move in with my dad. I even have applied at Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Supermarkets, Pizza places and nothing! I want to get back in school but I need a job to help with the expenses. I don't know where else to turn. Everyday I feel like I am sinking deeper into a hole...............
I was planning on going back to school, but your story is so familiar--more debt and no job. I've applied for call centers, pizzarias, and other fast food places too and I'm still without a job.
Don't give up. Keep applying. Try a headhunter or a no fee recruiter. Stay strong and keep trying. Opportunity doesn't go away, it goes to someone else if you give up.
It is so hard to get anywhere right now with no income, I would love to be back in school but there is nothing I can do right now.
Thank you for your words of encouragement. You keep applying too, something is bound to come up for us! I know it doesn't seem like it, and I know I have heard everyone say that so many times but we have to believe it.
