Well, firstly, are you comfortable writing a resume? If not then get googling (or whatever search engine you're comfortable with) and find resources such as articles on how to write a good CV or resume.

I'd say write one basic resume and then you can restructure this one for each job. Often what I'll do is just rewrite my experience for a particular position but focus on the skills the job I'm applying for would be looking for.

As for explaining the gap, well I'm not so experience in that myself. Were you unemployed for the duration and what was the reason for this? You could perhaps put a better spin on it by explaining the circumstances that caused you to have the gap.

Hey blazefly, well I'm glad I came here but this is so dated im sure you got the advice you needed but I was going to say that I went to a resume workshop and the guy is an expert in resume writing. He said when you have a gap on your resume just to be honest, say if you had to take two years off to help your sick parents or whatever, and just use that, don't lie or try to make something up. And consider writing in your summary that your are reentering the workforce because six years is a long time and they may see you as lacking certain skills, so atleast reetnering makes it seem that you are up to date on your skills and then that would come in under the heading of your skills.
