I ask myself what are they looking for . And this whole crap about hiring more veterans give me a break it's just a way for company's to get richer.
I'm not in the US but everything you've said in your post applies here in the UK.
Personally, I try not to blame the immigrants too much because it's the governments fault.
Nobody over here wants to sweep the streets, flip burgers or give out parking tickets.
These are jobs that alot of the immigrants take.
I'm all for people bettering themselves and I wish I could be positive like that myself.
Although I'm employed, I'm not happy where I am. If only I could give you my job :-/
It feels like I'm in a no-win situation because I can't quit my job or I won't get any benefits, and I don't feel confident enough to change job.
The wheel is going to come off pretty soon in many countries I think.
Things can't go on like this.
Hope you find a job you're happy with.
I can understand your frustration at the illegal situation, but, I don't understand your giving so much of your emotional energy to this issue. Obviously from what you posted on this issue, all it causes you is more frustration, which absolutely doesn't help you in any way. I guess I just believe in trying to do everything I can to keep myself in a positive, hopeful frame of mind, which isn't easy sometimes, I admit.
To answer your last paragraph concerning why don't we all just give up - my answer is that giving up doesn't seem like a very attractive alternative. It only takes a day for everything to turn around and we just never know how close we are to turning a corner where better situations await us. That's one of the many reasons I don't give up.
You're right, there IS a lot of bad news out there. But, there's good news too, if you look for it. If you have a roof over your head, food to eat, clothes to wear and access to clean water, you're doing better than multi-millions of people around the world, for starters.
I hope things get better for you, Beaumont, because those of us who have the need to visit a forum like this are facing real challenges.
these low paying jobs havent hired me yet and i have a degree. i am volunteering at the library (not related to my degree) but i do enjoy it and have applied to some more jobs. this thurs will be a month of me being at the library i want to build up more time with them before i get hired elsewhere.
we have a lot of mexicans here in AZ not any better you cant get entry level jobs right now because they dont want to hire. the fast food jobs dont wanna hire u if ur not mexican hence is why i wouldnt apply to it. someone told me how could u say that? look at every fast food job and they are mexican. once in a while, i will see a non mexican working there and they dont last long in fast food jobs.
here in AZ with gov programs, the mexicans get everything and us non mexicans dont get shit. we get shit from gov about why we need help etc.
The problem with stuck, bitter and resentful as we're looking for work is that those emotions don't just switch off like a light bulb if and when we're fortunate enough to get a job interview; they march right in the interview room with us. And, the vast majority of hiring managers have an uncanny ability to know how we're really feeling about ourselves. Just like they're able to sense the positive emotions we may feel, they're also able to sense the negative.
When I refused to worship the ground my former manager walked on, I was fired. It took me 26 months to find the position with a nearby school district that I have now. I was old enough to be the grandparent of most of the people who applied for positions I applied for when I was job searching. The combination of being over 60, long-term unemployed AND fired from my last position wasn't exactly a recipe for success, but, I did my best to keep my spirits and my hope for the future in a positive place.
I started working for AT&T in July of 1984. For several years, I had total confidence that I would retire from AT&T. It was the best job I ever had. Had I not gone on to suffer two devastating downsizings from AT&T, one in 1991 and the second and final one in 2002, next year I would have had 30 years with the company. I would have been in a position not only to have a good pension, I would have been able to take early social security at 62. Instead, I've literally gone through a little over 10 years of hell since that September 2002 downsizing. I've never recovered financially and my formerly good credit has been destroyed. Instead of looking forward to early retirement at 62, there's no telling when or if I'll ever be able to retire now.
Even though I was an excellent worker, because my position at AT&T was a union shop, I was essentially just a number on the seniority list, so anyone with 20 years of seniority or less was out the door. Somehow, I could sense that I was in for some hellish days to come after the downsizing, which has certainly proven to be the case, which could have left me feeling very bitter and negative. But, that certainly wouldn't have helped me. I chose instead to focus on as much of the positives in my life as I could, even though my situation is very frustrating at times.
I really do hope things get better for you, which I believe will happen much quicker if you focus on as many positive emotions as you can.
Wishing you all the best,
Janice
All this obsession about College and mass-producing Doctors, Lawyers and Teachers is what's making Americans face gargantuan debt. Americans need to be allowed to have a Vocational route to education and learn trades.
The 'American Dream' is one huge lie!
I've already filled out the pre-employment paperwork and did my physical and drug testing. I go back to the clinic tomorrow to get my PPD read and I start (paid) training Monday.
Trust me, I know the discouragement all too well. It's even worse when you are so depressed just getting out of bed and getting dressed is a struggle. But I am so glad I forced myself to go to that open interview.
And yes, I do realize that my being so young and without a family to support may make my situation seem like child's play but I was in a really bad spot.
Just keep trying. I truly believe that you will end up with the job that you are supposed to have. Things may look bleak now but maybe you haven't scored a job yet b/c a better one is in the cards for the future.
Illegal aliens/immigrants & those who are legal IS one of the factors as to why many citizens can't get a job. Reason being, the employers usually pay them a lot less than what they deserve. Citizens know what they are worth which is why an immigrant is FIRST preference to an employer.
From reading all these posts under this discussion, I realize that immigrants holding jobs that citizens can perform is a "problem" worldwide. Employers hire them over citizens because they accept the low salary. So let's call things how they really are. That is the harsh reality of it.
But like Vonni said....don't complain & bitch & moan. Never give up.
