I'm 58 and was a full time mother for most of the 35 years of marriage, never finishing my degree or accomplishing much other than raising good citizens and doing constant service at church and putting my husband through school while we had children. My husband recently passed away and now I am faced with providing for myself. I moved across 3 states to be closer to my married children and have no one to network with and I've been applying for jobs on online job boards. I've applied to about 40 jobs of various kinds (all of them in office settings since I have had some experience law offices & manufacturing offices), have had 2 interviews but zero 2nd interviews. I realize people hire people, not resumes, so my chances are very low without networking. In the past, I've never interviewed and not gotten the job. I'm starting to feel like I should resign myself to being a door greeter because no one wants to hire an older woman. It is difficult keeping my spirits up or keeping applying simply to receive letters of decline. I see other people my age at work. I would love an opportunity to provide for myself. If I take the 2 1/2 years to finish my degree, would anyone hire a 60 year old? I'd come out with school loans to pay off as well! Any suggestions?
When you look at your abilities from a totally different perspective, I believe that you will be pleased with your accomplishments.
When you then combine those accomplishments with the business world, even at 60, your path can be great and possibly surpass others your age who’ve worked all of their life and can’t even retire!
