About 5 months ago, we moved to Atlanta, GA and as an independent consultant, I gave up ALL INCOME up north. I found a position locally with a firm, seemed to be going perm. Started May 9 but on July 23 was sent packing when a hedge fund purchased the lot and all contractors were sent packing. Job hunt again and about 30 min ago found another job, a bit of a commute, but 3 weeks hunting? Not bad, so IT CAN BE DONE if you target, remain as positive as you can be, moderate expenses and enjoy an OCCASIONAL evening out just to keep the soul alive.

Just brought me back to earth again, reality. I somewhat feel like apology - my fortune is not common and perhaps a bit arrogant here, do hope it gave some hope but I also should have shut up a bit.

My charming spouse attacked me this weekend for not being a provider, and compared me to a really dumb husband friend of hers which sent me right to the gutter. Had a back-out accident in the library, nothing at all but the stress just exploded from the jobhunt and name calling. Finding a job is next to impossible these days, and I did it in three weeks maintaining as much of a positive attitude as I could - cannot afford negativity - and she tore me apart. We sort of made up but I am staying far away from her.

I'm glad you found a new job so soon, but I am really sorry to hear your wife is still treating you like that.

My husband has done things like that - criticizing me for not working and comparing me to a neighbor who does anything to avoid working and mooches off her elderly mother. It is hurtful and terrible for my self esteem, which is already low. When I first came to this country 12 years ago, I found a job easily. I had no idea how hard it normally is to find a job here for a foreigner. At least I have been doing some English classes and a former colleage has hired me to consult on several projects with him, so he has laid off for now.
