I might be getting a job tomorrow but i'm very ambivalent about it.
Bad things about it:
It's a call center
Customer service
open 24/7/365
12-14 hr
shifts include 4am - 1pm, 4 to midnight, Midnight to 8 (idk what mine would be but to try and secure employment I offered up that i'd be available for any of them -_- )
Good things about it:
It's work
it's close to home and my son's school
it's Full time
I could advance reasonably
Dress code seemed to be casual/business casual
it's close to fast food (whenever i have cash in hand, it's my treat to myself)
It's not sales
At my age (45) and my recent status (engaged, he has no kids, my 17 year old will be on his own within a year or so and my girl is on her own) I strongly desire a lifestyle where myself and my fiancee spend our time together. Early in my first marriage I worked nights and he worked days - NOT good for a new relationship. Yes, yes, we need to survive at this point, but it still sucks.
I have a degree and hate that I cannot seem to draw more than a $13/hr. wage. I know things and have vast experiences. I consider myself a Jack of all trades, Master of none and can be trained to do just about anything - NOT quite like a monkey ;-)
IF i get this, at least it would make it to where I wouldn't have to keep doing the Welfare to Work program - where I feel stupid and ignorant and that my clothes are not good enough for interviews (Blazers are strongly recommended and dresses are ok but NO PRINTS - ugh!)
All i want to do is get some computer training and get the job i really want. Well, that and to stop our eviction, pay the car payments up to prevent repossession and to get to eat out and explore my new town. Is that too much to ask for? Sometimes I feel bad for thinking I deserve a better life.
Our move to SoCal was to be our fresh start - OUR time to be happy and live a great, comfortable life. I feel like my whole life has been this way. I'm so ready for a change. So frustrated it hasn't turned for the better yet.

So, yeah, it sucks, but some income is better than nothing, especially if you are under financial stress. At least with those shifts you should have the chance to keep interviewing for something else during office hours.
