I am tired of fighting for scraps and worrying about every single penny I spend. The mainstream media says the economy is doing better, housing prices are up, and the stock market is over 14,000. Well, none of that means squat to me because I don't have a job, a home, or money in the market. Luckily my career field is very much in demand internationally and pays really well by local standards. I've lived and worked in two foreign countries already. I want to be productive but apparently in this country my services are not needed. At this point for me it's either leave the country or be homeless here in the 'greatest' country on earth. I should also mention my credit is shot because of medical bills, which definitely is an impediment to finding a job or apartment. I went to my local job center and they suggested a job as a janitor. I am almost finished with a masters degree. It's not that I feel such a job is beneath me but why would I sell myself short like that when there are tons of opportunities elsewhere in my field? Anyways, I am tired of living like this. Everyday I wake up without a job and feel a tremendous sense of anxiety, guilt, and failure. Not having somewhere to go and be productive, and its associated lack of structure, is killing me. I am languishing here and am sick of it. All I want is to be productive again. It just sucks thinking that I have to leave my own country to find a decent job, not to mention better access to healthcare.

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

Many of us know that the numbers for unemployment, housing, and the overall economy is an illusion. Also, stock market can be manipulated. So strongly encourage you not to put alot of confidence in these. We have already succumbed to the fact that what we see, ain't the real story.
If you must leave the country to gain the most advantage for your skills then encourage you to do so, only retain your citizenship. Many of us do not know when this jobless/economic situation is going to actually turn around. Many of us fear it may very well be the new norm for a long time yet. We hope we are terribly wrong with this thinking. In the meantime, encourage you to hang in there and do what you feel is necessary for survival. Do be careful in other countries. But, it really is not so safe here is. There is an illusion of security here as well.
I hope your situation improves very, very soon.
Good Luck & Best Wishes, always.

I've always been a believer that it's not what happens to us, but, more importantly, our reaction to it, that matters. If you do indeed end up having to leave the US to find a decent job, I would implore you to try to resolve what caused you to make that decision, or it will slowly eat away at you.
The vast majority of us have suffered at least one grave injustice or another. I certainly have. But, at some point, you have to let those injustices go and move on.
Believe me, I know how you feel. Had I not suffered not one, but, TWO devastating downsizings from AT&T, the last taking place the year I turned 50 years old, I'd now have great credit, a job with great pay and benefits, a home, and I'd be posed to take early retirement at 62. Now, at 60, my credit is shot, I'm struggling to make ends meet with a part-time job and sometimes I think one of my co-workers will find me dead in my cubicle, slumped over my keyboard, when I'm 75. (God, please don't let me die at work). I drive a 15 year old truck that needs MAJOR mechanical repairs that I absolutely cannot afford and BOTH side mirrors are held together with duct tape. Some days I get down about my plight, but, most days I just focus on the positive.
Not trying to piss you off, but, I really believe if you just keep trying to find work you're happy with, you will be successful in doing so. In the meantime, please don't allow bitterness over what has brought you to this place in your life to consume you.
I absolutely understand what you're going through. I've been there. Wishing you all the best, wherever you end up living.
