I'm in a similar situation. Ended the most recent job 2 months ago. Looking at tapping into 401k, selling the house, etc. Have been active with job applications, outplacement, networking, and so far no strong leads. I am 50. I believe there is a purpose for everything and that "this too shall pass".

This process changes us and it is for a purpose. The purpose is not always clear. It is not totally clear to me, at this moment.

I was unemployed at the end of December. I feel the same anxiety and fear. Most of the times I don't want to associate with my family. I'm mid 40s and wondering what I'm gonna do. I feel depressed at times. I have a degree but I haven't worked in that field in over 10yrs. I moved back home to a small town. I was looking to see if anyone felt like I did. I don't know if I should move. But I'm broke being unemployed. And everyone telling you what you should be doing is not helping.

I am too unemployed. I was let go from my last job on the 31st of January after 8 years. Been diligently looking for work. Had plenty of interviews but no job offers. I have been lucky to have a couple of temp assignments from a local temp agency. And a few weeks left of unemployment available to me. The anxiety of it all is maxed.
Terrifying reality is I am 50 and seriously considering entering into a factory job working on the line. Never have I done work like this. But it has benefits. Paid professional with college degrees for the last 20 plus years. Oh and did I mention, I am also going through a divorce.
I guess we aren't alone. Curious, question, what state is everyone in. Thought of relocating to find work.

Considering your age, perhaps you might want to consider working online instead? It's not physically intensive, and allows you to work from home as well. One suggestion would be to freelance as a graphic designer. It doesn't matter even if you don’t have any experience or budget — I started without either, and am now making around $4,000 a month after 2 years of hard work.

You can take some time to pick up the principles of good design through online resources such as YouTube and blogs. In addition, with open source software such as Inkscape and GIMP, there’s no need to purchase an Adobe membership.
