yes it exists and I was victim of it in hiring process with ATT Yellow Pages....I was interviewed by my AA friend for a job and he told me straight out that I did not have what they were looking for because of my skills with social networking and that I was older....that they hire younger people who have skills with social networks...like FB and Google Twitter ect...

most definitely...i'm 51 and i am certain the reason i didn't get the job i just spent 7 hours interviewing for is because i'm over 30. i only had to look around the office to see that everyone was under 30, even management.

I definately feel like I've been subject to age discrimination when I go on interviews...most definately. (I'll be 59 this month). I've absolutely come to believe that, if a company had the choice of two prospective employees, that they would much rather go with the employee with mediocore skills and experience in his/her 20's than a dynamite worker in his/her 50's.

The really upsetting thing about it is, there's almost no way to prove it. The company would find some reason to justify why they went with someone else.

I'm pretty tired of dealing with the crap corporations dish out. If I could figure out a way to go into business myself and have it prove lucrative, I would do it in a heartbeat.

I think we all need to get together start her own company, a consulting firm that hires no one under 50, because there's a wealth of information out there in this world that you can get from some 20-year-old 30-year-old thats still wet behind the ears.

Yes, I do feel the discrimination. My age and my vitiligo. No way to prove it. I laugh every time one of the talking heads on TV says something about raising the retirement age. Companies don't want to hire people in their 50's, much less keep them around until they are in their 70's!

Great point Mary. Imagine trying to find a job when you're 68 years old. Heaven help us!

That's for dang sure, mary14k. I never thought I'd be a victim of age discrimination, but, I definately experience it now.

I think age discrimination is a huge factor. My husband and I are both 62. Such fun to grow old and look at the possibility of losing everything you have worked your whole life to keep, and I am not talking big deal stuff, like boats and motorhomes, and new cars, just the basics. One small rambler house. Oh my. :(

For sure. I am on the other end of the spectrum. I am 18 and because I am so young I have been denied jobs. The reasoning is that I couldn't possibly be mature enough or be as successful as any other college grad because I am so young.

@Kwol10 - Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Now that you've mentioned it, I remember 40 years ago and feeling that particular type of age descrimination.
