Here is a zinger, I am now trying to get a job at Kroger as a stocker, and the manager, however nice, has not called me back pending a few store visits. I am nice and friendly and such and she promises and promises and .... so I cannot even get a job at a freaking KROGER f'crissake.

Very very very depressed.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds very frustrating. But kudos to you for applying to the job and getting to speak with the Manager. Sometimes when we are feeling down its so hard to see how much effort we put in. Some people just give up with things get hard but I respect you for trying. It's a long road ahead but someone is going to say you're hired. Also whose to say the job was a good fit? It could be the manager's personality was not a match. Like dating "it's not you it's me". My point being you can get a job. Just so happens that particular job was not for you.

I quit my job earlier this year. I was only there for one month. The environment was horrible. My supervisor was a bully and nothing I did seemed right. My boss even threatened to fire anyone who made a mistake. After I quit I found out that the boss fired 2 more people, denied someone disability, and the company is being audited. That job was not for me.

Do not let it depress or frustrate you.
Remember it's a numbers game and a process to exclude people for the sole purpose of discouraging people.
Right now, it look bad, but remember it's going to get better and you will have so many offers that you can't keep track of them all.

GOT A JOB. WHOOOO HOOOOO. Perhaps a tiny workspace but the pay is what I asked for. This was one of my recent set of rapid interviewed about 2 weeks ago so I was giving up. Second interview yesterday and I was not in good shape due to medication, but did as well as I could and ..... they phoned back, offered me the spot.

I'm right there with ya. Barnes & Noble wouldn't even consider me for a PT cashier position :-(
I have a degree, tons of work experience...blah, blah, blah...the usual overqualifications.
All of our bills are behind and we are facing eviction now. AND i signed up again for food stamps and now welfare...which pays the bills but not rent. I'm going to have to look to HUD housing now.
I'm sorry for your situation and I wish you good things...I know it's hard.
