Well can you cut back on the partying long enough to re-start your job search one step at a time.You can just take baby steps at first if you are feeling hopeless.There are unfortunately alot of us out here who cannot find any work.The economy sucks now that's just the truth.But that doesn't mean we should give up.You have to reach deep inside yourself now to get past this crisis time in your life.You, can do this,and hiding behind parties and Xbox will not help,but I think you know that.Perhaps you can keep coming on here for encouragement and meeting others in your situation will help you be more helpful.

@chloegirl46, I have no desire to begin looking again, none what so ever. I have tried looking "deep inside myself" and all I find is a deeper desire to drink and play Left 4 Dead. I have an entire drawer in my apartment filled with applications that are unfinished. Whenever I say "okay, I really have to look now" I just get depressed and go watch tv or something.

What would appeal to you or draw you away from giving up?Is there a friend who you trust who can push you to search for work?Have you thought at all to see a therapist to uncover why you feel so hopeless?Maybe there are other things going on with you?Perhaps if you are experiencing some depression that needs treatment?Will you look into it???

Well maybe you need to see a therapist who is more of a challenge to your intellect?You are obviously smart so perhaps not many can reach you?I have been out of work for 3 years I lost my house,my credit,1/2 my furniture.The only reason I kept going was because of one person who cared enough about me.Now, with therapy and meds. I have gotten to a point where I can cope with no employment and just keep trying everyday.

@chloe, I went through relationship counselling with my girlfriend and if you want to change, you will. We want to mend our relationship because admittedly, I was not the best boyfriend but I wanted to fix it. My girlfriend and I went to counselling knowing we had to do the work too. It is not just about the counselor motivating you, you need some self-motivation too. If she doesn't want to change she won't.

I will say that the parties and XBox seem to be coping mechanisms which are fine but you need to find balance. You need to try to find some time to at least see if there are anything on a job board that sound remotely interesting. I know there are not many jobs out there and there are the same jobs week after week but you have to try. I understand that you cannot bring yourself to try but you need to look once a day, once every few days because something may come up.

I am not saying that is all about a therapist.I do think therapists are an important part of helping us to discover the next "open door" in life.Of course if someone has no desire to change they won't.There must be sufficient motivation(too much pain,absolutely no money,catastrophy)to want to change.I don't think the partying is ok,first it costs $$$$ which she should be saving,second it takes her away from reality that she should be dealing with.If there is no money coming in the sooner she trims down her budget the longer she can last until something comes along.
