Frequently, when I come to this site, I see an advert that offers a service for divorced women who want to reclaim their maiden name, following the break-up of marriage.
I want to point out that Deed poll is NOT necessary!
It is NOT a legal requirement that a woman change her surname to that of her husband when she marries; it is merely a matter of custom.
If you are in the unfortunate position of divorce, wishing to reclaim your OWN name - which is on your Birth Certificate - all you need do is to notify all the appropriate authorities that you wish to be known by that name.
When my first marriage ended, I immediately reclaimed my maiden name - without paying a solicitor for the privilege!
Do NOT be conned into believing that you need to go through a legal and costly process in order to reclaim the name that you were given at birth!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I never went through Deed Poll to reclaim my own name!
You can call yourself by any name you choose as long as it isn't for fraudulent purposes.
