Twin Sleeping Arrangements

So I was planning on having our twins sleep in the same crib for the first couple of months then a friend of a friend who has twins told me that her doctor very strongly discouraged co-sleeping twins because of suffocation risks. So now I don't know what to do. We want them to sleep in our room in the beginning but I don't know that 2 cribs in our room is possible. Should I get 2 bassinets and 2 cribs? Does anyone who has used bassinets have a recommendation on brand? Also, I was looking at a twin pack in play with 2 bassinets that Graco makes but it got some bad reviews. Does anyone have it and do you like it?

My twins are 6 months old ad shared for the first 4 months. They were in a twin bassinet for at forst, when they were really small then in a shared cot, we moved them at 4 months because my son started to move around loads and we were worried he would hurt my daughter. They sleep way better when the other twin is closer, and it was really tricky to get them used to sleeping apart. When my new twins are born in july we will be co-sleeping again. Do what is best for you but co-sleeping can work really well. Good Luck

I have two of the Graco twin bassinets pack and play and I used it quite a bit when they were little. I didn't have any issues, but different things can happen for different people. Graco also makes a travel crib, which is much smaller than a normal pack n play, might two of those fit in your room? I use one now because one of my twins still sleeps in our room due to medical issues.

The problem I read repeatedly about that twin pack n play w/ 2 bassinets is that the mattress sinks in the middle and the babies roll towards the middle because of it. It looks like such a great solution but some of the reviews are making me hesitant about getting it.

I am going with the greco twin pack and play... if you want you can always just get 2 pack n plays... I also have a crib with a twin divider. It keeps the babies apart when they sleep but you can take it out the rest of the time. I am told they are safe...

I was like happygolucky and had my twins share a crib for the first 5 or 6 months. Only when they started disturbing each other by bumping into each other did I separate them. We never did have them sleep in our room, but we thought about the twin pack n play and I just saw so many negative reviews that I decided it wasn't worth the money.

I think fepenn has a good suggestion - get two regular pack n plays. You will want two later on when they are older and you need a portable place for them to nap. When they are older they will be too heavy and too big to share the twin pack n play - even if you take the bassinets out. Don't bother with just getting regular bassinets - you won't ever use them again - at least a pack n play you will be able to use as a play pen or a napping spot later on.

We ended up buying our first pack n plays when our boys were 1 and we bought two because 1 doesn't have a high enough weight limit and they would never both fit comfortably in there. They work out great for napping at other people's houses!

I agree with happy and LJ. My ob/gyn has a set of twins and he said they shared the same crib for almost a year. Mine did so for 6+ months until they started moving around too much. In my personal opinion, I think they feel more secure that way b/c they've been together inutero for 9 mos. One pack n play is okay when they're small but not as they grow. Then again, the girls are never in them so they're only used if they're at someone else's house. Good luck :-)
