I would think you would find it easier if you bought 2 seats, so you could hold one baby and the other can be in seat next to you (in infant carrier). Don't even think airlines would let you hold both anyways.
Check anything you do not need with you on plane so you have the least with you as you can. But I would also think having your stroller for being inline at security or at the gate/walking around terminal would be a good idea too since you will have your hands full with two.
Bring entertainment, favorite blankie, book etc.
Bring enough milk/formula to get you through flight. They will allow you to bring fluids through security when they are for babies.
Make sure you have enough time for security etc so you are not freaked out by the time at any point. I personally rather get there early and through security than feel rushed and stressed. Then again you have to entertain 2 6mo olds until flight time.
Good luck!
I see moms flying all the time with two little ones, either twins or just siblings so it can be done.
You will need one baby seat on the plane with you, which will have to be put in a window seat because that is the rule for every airline that I know of because the seats block the leg area space completely.
With your two little ones at six months old I most certainly think it can be done! I do not have twins but I have friends that do. They have all traveled by themselves with their small children and even myself with just one small child I find that for the most part the security and the flight staff are usually so kind and accommodating. The only ugly looks I have ever gotten are from cranky passengers that probably hate children or are not an understanding parent themselves. For a 2 hour flight though I think you can do this very smoothly and easily. It's controversial in mommy world but when we fly, I pack children's benadryl and give my little one a small dose right before boarding. It takes the edge off and calms him a little bit and he isn't so focused on everything that's going on around him. This was suggested to me from my pediatrician when we flew with our baby for the first time at the eight month mark.
Now that he is a much older toddler we give him a giant tootsie pop sucker when the plane hits the runway and he gets one as the plane descends. It helps with his little ears popping and is a tasty distraction. You could try the sucker concept with your little ones too if you are worried about their little ears if you hold the sucker for them (a dumdum sucker is small enough & could work) Some mommies would be horrified at this suggestion and I know it's not for everyone but, an old school southern momma gave me this idea when our son was little and we have flown with suckers ever since:)
