Is there any way to tell if my twins are identical?I never had the test done on them, as my doctor had said it was really expensive. They look really similar and many people can't tell them apart but i can clearly see their differences! Any advice out there?

Just letting you know half my family still can't tell the girls apart.Clearly I can tell there a little different but not much.From behind I could not tell one from another.They were in different sacs.

Was there a thick line or a thin line between the sacs? One placenta or two? Thick is fraternal, thin might be identical...one placenta might be identical, two is fraternal...Maybe, this is what my doc said when i was very early on. That they were fraternal because there was a thick line and two placentas...the placentas fused together, though, to creat one very large one. That might help...Otherwise, I do not know...

i am having 2 girls and thay have told me that they will not know till thay are born, i have 2 sacs and 2 placentas, i was told that by looking at their placentas and doing a simple test as soon as they were born would tell you. I am not sure of any other way to tell though

My doc said that I am having Identicals since they are in the same sac seperated by a thin membrane and one placenta. You can't tell by looking at twins if they are identical or not unless they are boy and girl. Identical just means they have the same gender and the EXACT same DNA.

Unfortunately, it can get pretty tricky. I just had twins and I am not certain either. They look like they may be identical, the docs think so (one is 1.5 lbs heavier, so its easy for me to tell the difference right now). They were in two sacs (amniotic, not sure about chorionic) and they had two 'fused' placenta's!! So, go figure! The doc's said, it all depends on when the egg separated, whether they will have two amnions and two placenta's. My doc threw the placenta away, so I didn't get any tests done, I suppose I wouldn't want to pay for it either. Does fraternal twins run in your family? Apparently fraternal twins is hereditary through the mothers line, and identicals are just a random thing that occurs with older women or women on fertility pills (thats what I found on internet research).

My are frateral but for the first three months I had to keep one of their toe nails painted.

The tests now are very simple and inexpensive you can actually get a kit delivered to you door were you take a little swab inside their mouths and send back to the lab, it costs about $145.00. I have never had my girls tested and my doc told me my girls were identical just by examining the placenta, I think I will get my girls tested only for medical reasons it would be good to know.

i had mz twins monozygotic which are exactly alike yet as their mom i can see differences but when they were first born apart from the weight difference it was hard to tell them apart.They were in seperate amnionic sacs in one monochorionic sac from the same placenta, when they are like this twin to twin transfusion syndrome is more risky i was visiting consultant every two weeks throughout my pregnancy.
