Turner syndrome encompasses a number of chromosomal abnormalities, of which monosomy X, is the most common. It occurs in 1 out of every 2,500 female births. Instead of the normal XX sex chromosomes for a female, only one X chromosome is present and fully functional. In Turner syndrome, female sexual characteristics are present but underdeveloped.
Hi! I am 19 years old and I was offically diagnosed with tuner syndrome about 2 years ago. I was told that my mother knew I had it but she never told me. Every since I was offcially diagnosed and turner syndrome was brought to my attention it seemed like my world came crashing down a little bit. I feel as if no one really understands me and I am all alone. I am glad I came across this website and hope that I will be encouraged. I have two questions how did you feel when you heard/ were first diagnosed about your turner syndrome? and my second question is did finding out you had turner syndrome lower your confidence level?
I’m 20 years old and was diagnosed when I was 16; up until then none of my family had any clue that I had TS, so it was a bit of a shock when we found out. When I was first diagnosed I felt numb and the whole situation seemed surreal. Of course after that than the many checkups began (heart, kidneys, etc.) but overtime I started to get use to everything and it didn’t feel so surreal anymore. It doesn’t seem so crazy to me now. It did affect my confidence back then, I felt a bit awkward for a while, but overtime I was able to start building it back up. It does get easier. :)
