Turner Syndrome Support Group
Turner syndrome encompasses a number of chromosomal abnormalities, of which monosomy X, is the most common. It occurs in 1 out of every 2,500 female births. Instead of the normal XX sex chromosomes for a female, only one X chromosome is present and fully functional. In Turner syndrome, female sexual characteristics are present but underdeveloped.
To have kids I'm considering doing IVF someday, but told pregnancy can cause heart complications, especially for those with a bicuspid aortic valve. How great is the risk, does anyone have thoughts on this?
Pregnancy for us TS girls has many risks; I've done some research on this as I have thought about this too. There are many complications for both the mother and the baby, for example; preterm birth and fetal growth restriction. When I was first diagnosed I was also given a book titled, "Turner Syndrome Across The Lifespan" which also discusses this topic. Personally, I will be taking the road of adoption when I want to start a family of my own. :)
