Well I haven't had c-sections but just wanted to recommend that you get some 2nd and 3rd opinions. Some docs say wait 6 months, some 9, some a whole year. Sometimes it's just their routine suggestion but it also can depend a lot on the specific circumstances. If I were you I'd see what a couple of other doctors tell you, based on YOU, not just what they generally tell all of their patients.

I did not have a c-section this time around but, I just thought I would tell you that we had two miscarriages and then they found out I was hypothyroid and they think that was the cause of my miscarriages. Well I got that under control and I had my first at 35, my second at 36, my third at 38, my fourth at 40 and my fifth (my little Alexander 11-6-10) at 42. I am planning on trying again in a few months. Keep yourself healthy and good luck.
I do agree get a few opinions make sure you feel healed.

Just wanted to share my story.........I had an emergency c-section with my angel on 10/06/08 and I delivered my rainbow baby 11/06/09 by scheduled c-section. The births were exactly 13 months apart with no complications.

Why did your doctor recommend waiting 1 year? Are there other health concerns?

I've heard of doctors recommending waiting anywhere from 3 months to 1 year. But what I find strange is they sure don't tell the normal women who has a c-section to make sure she takes birth control because of the risks of another pregnancy so close????

Baby Coles Mom-- dr didn't say to wait a year, just said to make sure the c- sections weren't done any closer than one year apart, preferably closer to 2 years. So I guess technically he meant I needed to wait about 3-4 months after my angel was delivered to ttc, but he did say if I could wait longer, that would be better.

I think the big risk is for uterine rupture or uterine scar dehiscience, which is where the c-section scar line on the uterus can actually pull apart and open up as the pregnancy progresses. The risk of this happening is greater in multiple pregnancies, and with large babies (both my babies were large -- 8.3 and 9.5 respectively, so I guess that was my increased risk). If it happens, it can be fatal for either mother, child or both.

I think I am just so scared because it seems like pregnancy is so difficult for me-- it is almost like, "what else can happen?" and i think to myself, well uterine rupture will probably be next. I know it's just nerves but I'm so scared to even let myself hope for a good outcome.....

welli had c section at 36 weeks. it wasnt an emergency and the surgery went perfect. first they said 6 months. well now they want me to continue waiting. i trust my doc.hes really good. talk to him. i mean camp out in the office. ask him why he wants u to wait.i had an ectopic a few days ago. i dont think its related to my c section in any way but i could have caused damage to my tubes and lost one. so do ur research. u dont want to lose another baby trust me. best wishes

Whitney, I sooo understand what you are feeling. I read all about uterine ruptures during my pregnancy with my rainbow and I was scared out of my mind. I was certain it was going to happen to me too.

My Cole was 9 lbs 5 oz (40 weeks - Big boy) and I just knew my rainbow, Levi was going to be a big boy too. He was measuring in the 90th percentile by ultrasound. I delivered Levi a couple days before 38 weeks and he weighed 7 lbs 11 oz, so with a couple more weeks to cook he would have been a 9 pounder easily. Most of the time after a full term stillbirth the docs want to deliver a couple of weeks early in the subsequent pregnancy.

Really what it comes down to is when you feel comfortable TTCing again. I just know when I was in your shoes 2 years ago I needed to hear stories like mine to give me some hope. Please message me anytime if you wanna chat.
