I was thinking of looking into a midwif or doula but they told me with my history it probally be very hard because I will need to be in a hospital setting and a more" trained" professional. I learned NOT to listen to what people tell me and do TONS of research onmy own.

I agree with (stillamommy) I do a lot of my own research..and i have already switched ob's. I really do enjoy her and she is more one on one. I dint get that with my last Ob. I think the thought of a midwife is very cool. If you think they will help you then go for it. :)

I had a midwife and I will NEVER do it again. It was my experience with the hospital that makes me say that. I have heard good things and I switched midwives when I delivered Jayden and my post partum care and because the midwife went through what I was going through she was great but I would much rather have a doctor who does tests and has all the equipment readily available

I have looked in to that also. In the area I live in their are some clinics that have like two doctors and four midwives to choose from. I am sure the midwife has to have a doctor to supervise her but I have heard that they spend a lot more time with you since they specialize in labor and delivery. I felt the same way with the last set of doctors that I had. My doctor was really understanding but she was not there until it was time to push. If it were not for my family I would have been alone a lot!! So next time I am definitely going to use a midwife...

You may want to talk to ashtonsmum. She either is a midwife or works with one. She may be able to answer some questions you have.

I felt like my doctor used a lot of science to get me through my rainbow pregnancy and that kept me sane. I agree with you that midwives are more emotionally invested and more personal (I had one with my angel, except for the birth, which still irks me about that practice...), but I also agree they tend to do fewer interventions and are more touchy-feely. It depends what you want and need. I wanted more tests and monitoring which midwives were not going to give me. I would still choose a midwife again for my first pregnancy--they are not the reason I had a stillbirth--but with a history of loss, questions about why it happened, and being nervous every second of the day I needed the medical interventions of testing and an MD.
I switched OBs after my stillbirth. I found one who was in sole practice so I knew I would meet with him ONLY every time. We met with him before I got pregnant too, to see if he would be a good fit and to see if he would understand our situation. When we told him our first son was stillborn he said "well jeez, that sucks" and we knew he was a keeper! I think it really depends upon the individual midwives and doctors and it depends upon your emotional and physical needs.

Not all Docs are like that. The doctor I am seeing right now is fabulous. Her walls are lined with Poster Boards of all the Babies she has delivered and she (being a mom herself) is very understanding and I love that. She is watching me very carefully and because of my history she has been willing to run extra tests if needed and stuff so she is really wonderful.

Hi there, Yes I am a midwife in Australia. I'm not sure if midwives are the same here or not. It took me 4.5 years of university study to be a midwife and I work in a hospital. In Australia most pregnancy and births are managed by midwives with the obstetrician seeing women at certain key points in the pregnancy. In high risk pregnancies the ob will see you every visit but you still see a midwife. I work in a small hospital all my collegues are midwives and we have one obstetrician. Bigger hospitals will often have a team of doctors but they won't come in unless you are high risk or the midwife needs them. Also here in Australia some midwives work for themselves and some do birth at home but it's not as common because it's hard to get insurance. Please if any of you have questions feel free to ask me
