I am seeing MFM. He is the same doctor who saw me in the hospital when we lost Sadie so at my initial visit he knew my history. The one thing that surprised me at that visit was that he did an ultrasound to be sure everything was structurally normal. I did NOT expect that and it was very difficult emotionally (as I was only 5 weeks out from delivery). I had to go back for a follow up ultrasound at 8 weeks and that wasn't any easier despite trying to mentally prepare for that. Otherwise it wasn't much different from a routine visit. I brought a list of questions and my husband came so that we could both keep track of everything. Call ahead to make sure they have all your records from your OB and the hospital. Hope that helps

I have an appt scheduled for 9/1 with the maternal fetal specialist. I'm nervous about it as well. Hope all goes well at your appointment.

I went in to meet with my specialist before we even started trying again. Just a meet, greet and discuss what happened and how to prevent it from happening again. I was nervous too, but I was relieved after we left. Our new doctor was so kind, patient and so ready to help us out! I would write down any and all questions that pop into your head, and have someone go with you so they can help you remember what was said, or just take a pen and paper to keep notes.

Its a great step forward and I think you will get a lot from the meeting. My new doctor told me that he had just delivered a baby to a 53 year old woman (her egg too) and it went perfectly - it gave me so much HOPE! Best of luck, keep us posted!

Well I went to my MFM appointment and had genetic counselor talk to me for awhile. It doesn't look like we'll be needing any genetic counseling but the doctor suggested thrombolitic (I think that's correct)blood testing. Since we have no definitive answer to why we lost our daughter, they reassured me that the chances of recurrence are slim. That gave me renewed hope. So far all doctors say it was most likely a cord accident or due to lack of blood from a velamentous cord insertion. I'm hoping and praying for a healthy baby soon.
