Hi again everyone...I am just at the beginning of my journey to conceive. Thought I would ask you all a couple questions I have...first, for those of you with absent/irregular periods, how do you time when you are going to have intercourse? Since we dont know when I am ovulating, how are we supposed to know when to baby dance? What do you guys do for this? I know the doctors like to hear that you have been activley trying for a whole year before they do much testing...is this true? It is so hard to "try to conceive" with NO period at all....Another question I have is how do you guys afford all of the treatments? Are any of these things covered by your insurance? I have pretty high insurance and called my company and they say they do not cover any infertility things for anyone. Do you guys take out loans for it?

Hi there! TTC 2 yrs. I too have absent irregular periods. For me I've known something was wrong ever since I started puberty. Very heavy very painful periods. As I got older I'd go 3 months without a period.so to answer your questions If you're having sex at least 3 times a week they you don't have to worry about times intercourse. Tipically they say the start of your cycle (the first day you see bright red blood when you wipe) count back 12-14 days that is the day you ovulated. Some women how ever a period doesn't mean they necessarily ovulated Other than that you yourself can't tell when you've ovulated. You can however get a progesterone test done it's timed with your cycles it's a blood test done at your lab on cycle days 21-23.... that can tell you if you've ovulated even before you get your period. They say 1 yr for a healthy (fertility wise) couple. 6months for an unhealthy couple. But I got my test done right when I decided I wanted to conceive. We already knew I had PCOS. So I was sent for sonograms and an HSG. Found I had a septated uterus and possibly endometriosis as well. So really it's up to the patient you tell your dr your symptoms and tell him you want a full work up because you want a baby like yesterday. Lol My insurance covered the procedures somewhat but somehow it was less expensive for us to pay out of pocket. So we did. I pay a co-pay every time I see a dr. And my co-pay is very slightly higher when I see a specialist. Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover a penny for the fertility drugs or treatments. So far we've laid out if pocket we haven't tried IUI or IVF yet. But I'm doing the IUI in the next coming cycle we are using some of our tax return for that 1000$ per treatment. IVF is like 14,000$ in my state (Texas) so we will have to save for that because money doesn't grow on trees. As far as loans we haven't had to try that yet... I'm sure others have. You can try Ovulation Prediction Kits (OPKs) to see about when you ovulate. Do like cbk_rose stated and try to count back 12-14 days from the first day you started your last cycle then that way you have an idea for when to start testing. You could also start tracking your BBT. I don't do that since I know I don't ovulate but lots of women rather keeping track that way. My insurance doesn't cover infertility as well and I've been paying out of pocket and hope we don't have to revert to IUI or IVF. I could maybe do 1 or 2 IUI cycles but IVF is out of the question!
