That is very exciting for you. We had a few hiccups along the way with our retrieval. I have issues with my thyroid and my levels were to high so we decided to increase meds. The moral of this story is that my doctor told me that we needed to do a Frozen transfer instead of a fresh. It turns out that we could have waited to start are retrieve process and could have saved 4200 + $. I was never explained that it would cost more to have a FET than a fresh. My bad for not asking however I have never done anything like this before. I feel like we are at the mercy of our doctors. So I guess ask lots of questions from your doctors (that is what you pay them for) Talk to the business office that takes care of the bill. I did a lot of research for medications. My doctors did not have any suggestions for where to get them. That was the most stressful part of the process for me plus the surprise of 4200 more out of pocket expense. We do have 6 embryos at the blastocyst 5 grade A and 1 grade B. Which the doctors are very excited for. We are planning our FET on April 24th!!!!! I hope all goes well and we will have a positive preg test on May 3rd. I had a friend of mine that has done 2 ivf cycles with 2 healthy baby girls 4 years apart. I can share my experience with you. I do not have a lot of money and my insurance contributed one time only cap, which helped cover for only one IVF cycle. I started building the eggs at 41, only four eggs were retrieved and three of them got fertilized and became a 5 days blastocyst. I did not test them due to limited funds. The transfers were done in three separate ones, the first, resulted in a pregnancy which lasted for 9 weeks, and the heart stopped at wk 9, very sad. The second transfer resulted in a chemical pregnancy, and the third did not take.

My Dr said that one of the reasons the pregnancies did not succeed could have been due to genetic problem with the embryos, such as chromosomal abnormalities. I also have a lot of fibroids in the walls of my uterus, which the Dr said that were not interfering, but I read a few articles which said that fibroids may interfere with the pregnancy, and they can cause sudden miscarriage, chemical pregnancy, and the embryo not to take. But if you do not have fibroids, this is one thing less for you to worry about.

Additionally, I read that a lot of times, three full cycles of IVF are needed to have a live birth. I cannot afford the two next cycles and did not have a live birth in my first cycle. But it is possible as some people have babies with their first cycle.

Each cycle of IVF is very costly. One needs to be strong to go through IVF as it is physically and emotionally draining. There are a lot of needles involved which are in the belly to build the eggs, then in the buttocks to prepare the body for the transfer, in addition to the pills.

Ensure you get a quote or estimate of what everything will cost. When it's time to order medication ensure u plan properly because you can run out or over order and won't be able to return them. Good luck!!!
