I recently got health insurance again after a long hiatus of having none. Yesterday was my 1st appointment with a new OBGYN since my miscarriage in Nov '09. DH and I started TTC again this cycle and I just got my LH surge on 9/27. My appoinment was at 1 PM yesterday. The nurse asks me if I am pregnant and I say that I am not sure, as we have been trying but it is too early for me to test. She takes a urine sample (at 1PM) and does a quick dip test, and tells me I am not pregnant. Now I know that the chances we concieved this cycle are small, but can a urine test, even at a Dr.'s office tell me if I am pregnant or not at only 5 DPO? This seems wrong to me and I asked her how the test could be accurate. She says that their tests are really sensitive and that I shouls just accept that I am not pregnant?? WTF?!?

Hi! tests at the dr's office are definitely more accurate but 5DPO is still too soon to be 100% sure! Even if it is at the dr's office. I say you might still have a little chance of being pregnant...keep on the look out for any symptoms and maybe by wednesday next week test again if you have any symptoms. Keep positive but don't get your hopes up too high. Have faith, this will happen for you! Take care, keep us posted and lots of baby dust to you!

Thanks! Implantation sometimes takes 7-10 days right? So how can 5 DPO be accurate? I understand that the chances are slim, but she could have been a little nicer forthcoming with an explanation. . .

Now I just want a BFP so I can go back to the office and tell the nurse that she'll just have to accept that I am pregnant! LOL

I highly doubt it is accurate after 5 DPO! When I was preggers, I tested on the day of my expected period with an early response & got a positive. I went the next day to the doc and the urine test said negative, so they drew blood to confirm my positive.

I hope you get at BFP too! Not just because that's the point of trying, but so you can throw it in that woman's face! That was rude, whether she is right or wrong she should be a little more sensitive.

I agree 5 DPO is too soon no matter what test is being used. The earliest I have heard of anyone getting an accurate result is 10-12 DPO. I got the faintest line imaginable at 13 days DPO when I was pregnant the first time. I wouldn't stress too much and just let it go. Sounds like the nurse was having a bad day and took it out on you. I don't there are any urine tests more accurate than the early response ones and even those say to wait until at least day 10. Hoe you get your BFP this month. :)
