I am so sorry to hear of your misfortune. Like TN isn't enough to deal with?! So, my first question is whether they terminated you as a result of your illness. If so, then you are at least eligible for unemployment. There are a couple of people on here who have filed for disability, not sure if any got it yet.

If it were me, I would be contacting the US Department of Labor and check into filing a lawsuit under the American Disabilities Act. I also would file for SS, can't hurt to try. Worst they can say is, "no". My Mom always told me, "nothing ventured, nothing gained."

Not sure I can help, based in England. Sounds as though your living my fear, I may be joining you in a couple of months unless I can get my bum into work and be able to do my job effectively. One thing I've heard over here (whether true or not I don't know) is that a persons GP provides the advice of whether a person is considered disabled or not.

Other than that, I wish I could say something comforting but I know how I'd feel. Hope at least you get some financial support. My thoughts are with you.

I'm sorry to heat that. I'm afraid that's what is going to happen to me. Next month I will have been on my job for 14 years and I'm starting to miss more and more work. Keep us posted so we can see how everything turns out. Keep your chin up and concentrate on getting well.

I think TN gave you some very good advise. I would definitely try the Disability. I do know of another person who did receive disability. She was turned down the first and time then she hired an attorney and she received it the second time. She is on another TN group, support site.

Thanks for all your support... It means more to me than you know.. I'm still in disbelief. I was called into Human Resources and my supervisor and friend for many years were sitting there. My reaction even shocked me. I almost couldn't breathe I needed a bag.

I made it down the corridor to the bathroom turned on the water so no one could hear. I don't drive because of the medication so I had to wait for a ride about 45 mins away.

I went into my supervisor's office and tried to calm down, All I could think was no insurance, no life ins, no paycheck how do I pay for my mortgage? I've had my house since 1989!! I feel as if I'm going to loose everything. My daughter is a senior... How do I pay for college? My boyfriend is out of work and getting close to the end of his extension. I haven't told friends or my family because I'll just cry!!! Thanks for letting me spill my feelings on here... Great to know I have support!

I just can't shake the feeling that you have been terminated, not necessarily because you can't perform your job, but because of the health insurance liability that they may perceive you being. Does that make sense to anyone else?!

I seriously think you need to consult an attorney, mind you I do not usually advocate lawyers (can't stand them), but see if you can't get a free initial visit. This really stinks to me.

Hugs and prayers to you. The shock will wear off and you will be ok, it just does not feel like it now cause it is so new.

I'm SO sorry to hear that Boston. I wish I had some great advice. I think TNWife is right. It doesn't seem fair they can do this to you like that. I would find out your rights. In the meantime, is there maybe you can find something you can do from home? Thinking of you through all this. You are not alone.

I too lost a dream job after 14 years. I began missing more and more work and even when I was there most of the time I was in pain or in a fog and could not give 100%. My job was eliminated because of downsizing. No one is stupid enough to fire a person for the real reason. I was in a fog for at least 2 weeks after my job was eliminated. I was and am very good friends with my boss and owner of the company. He kept in touch with me to make sure I was okay. We still see each other quite often. I hope you have this type of relationship, as it has made things so much better for me. I don't take it personally, as I know it was professionally. Once I come to terms with that I was okay with it. When I stop to think about it, it was the best thing professionally for the company, as I do know that I was not really there anymore for them. I filed unemployment and I also filed for Disability. I tried to work 2 other great jobs and they too ended in a job elimination. I am waiting for a hearing for my SSD. I have an attorney to work on my case as I don't know what the heck I am doing. I have trouble filling out forms. They look right at the time, but most of the time they are incorrect. This is due to the medications and/or disease. Good luck to you. I have finally come to terms that I cannot work. It is hard and I still have days that I feel like I can do my job and feel bad. I will let you know how my hearing goes once I have it.

My husband lost his job to TN. Worked there 20 1/2 years. His attacks put him in the emergency Room and the company suspended him last year after 3 trips. The company policy is that you must give a 48 hour notice to be off. We still agrue to this day, "How can you give notice of 48 hours with TN?" He waited a year to applied for Social Security Disability because we had a hidden hope that this would go away. Yea, Right! I feel for you, fight daily for my husband and hope we get some kind of financial help. We have used up 401 K and very little income. I tolerate my mother - in - law living at my house ( she has Alzhiemers) just to be able to use her funds to pay many of the bills. I had not planned to be in the position, thought my 50's would be better but am facing many problems being a wife, mother and caretaker. The darn problem with TN is most people don't know what it is, don't care because you look ok, no missing body parts or scars, and think you are just lazy. Well, I just wish they had to watch a love one go through one of this attacks. I think they would jump on the first Wagon they could, pushing me down, getting on.

Boston, I am so sorry to hear that for you. I am a special ed teacher and I missed all of my sick days plus more and had my pay deducted. I had classroom assistants who went and told the principals every time I had pain. They all started treating me differently. I was given a pink slip in June. They told me it was budget cuts, but I know it was really because of my TN problems. I am receiving unemployment and since I am in grad school for a degree in high needs area, I can receive my unemployment for as long as I am in school. I have been told that we can receive disability for it, but I have not applied. Maybe you should just apply and see what happens. What reasons did they give you for letting you go? I agree with TNWife about checking with US Dept of Labor and ADA. Again, I am so sorry that this happened to you and I wish you the best.

Your stories are tragic and only we understand the attacks and the pain. I would not be able to work... and no medication totally takes it away. If I didn't get my nerve block... I can't stand the pain it's intolerable. No notice can be given to your employer!!!!.. You just want to rip your face off.. have all your teeth removed...

Employers are keen to call it many different terms.... My position was being backfilled (What) to fill in my job because of the many absences. Creative.. We are working people with homes family and a horrible disease that has taken hold of our lives. A disease many don't know about.. until I got it I didn't. This has to be changed and yes you do feel different and people treat you different... Like your making it up or crazy... Thanks for the feedback... AGGHH makes me so angry

We will all have to do to get by... I will probably have to dig into funds for retirement...too. After that sell my house :(

Hello Friend!!! So sorry to hear about your job!! I had to quit my job in childcare because of TN and I have TWO places for you to try. They are work from home jobs. You'll need a landlne and the internet. The ONLY thing you have to pay for on each job site is the background check. One company charges $30 and the other charges $50 (but you will make that back in no time) I work at a company called Westathome and their website is www.westathome.com. I am an employee so I dont have to pay taxes at the end of the year. I get to pick my own schedule and work as many or as little hours as I want. Avg pay runs btwn $9-12/hr. (Not great but it's something). The second company my mom and best friend work for and its called www.liveops.com. You also get to choose your own schedule and hours. This company is an independent contractor so you would have to pay taxes at the end of the year but you typically avg $11-$13/hr. I recommend either company bc I know they are legit and it makes it easier for people like us who cant work all of the time. You sched yourself in 30min increments, as many as you want up to 12hours per day. If you have ANY quesions, I will be happy to answer them! Hope this lifts your spirit!
