I know everyone has a different experience with TN and different triggers. I was diagnosed in June 2013 at age 32 after several very painful episodes, and trips to the ER. After an MRI to rule out MS and tumors, I began to seek ways to alleviate the pain. I really wanted to avoid meds unless absolutely necessary. During the episodes, I figured out that for me, extreme heat (like a towel soaked in very hot water) seemed to help the dull the pain a bit (sometimes). My sister had been seeing a chiropractor for her hip pain. When she mentioned my TN to him, he said he would be willing to try some techniques to lesson my pain. I saw him twice for what he called myofascial (unsure of the spelling on this) massage. He basically compared the sides of my face where my TN pain seemed to stem, and worked to break apart tissues that had adhered to one another in this area. He also made some adjustments in my upper neck area, and massaged the muscles on the inside of my mouth towards the back of my mouth. Yes, All of this was very painful (TN already is excruciating, so I was willing to go through a little more pain to try to get rid of some of it). The night after this first treatment I had a very big episode of TN pain...but...the next morning, NO pain (the pain in my jaw, gums, teeth, etc that had been there for months was virtually gone...although it did still feel a bit sensitive when I bit down on the Right side (where my TN symptoms are). The pain was gone for about three days. When it started returning, I went in for another treatment (same as the first). Again, huge episode that night....but, pain lessened the next day and the next, and I have been pain free since!! (Going on three months now!) I just thought I would share in case there is anyone else out there that it might also work for...
