Trigeminal Neuralgia Support Group
Trigeminal neuralgia, or Tic Douloureux, is a neuropathic disorder of the trigeminal nerve that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, nose, scalp, forehead, and jaw. Trigeminal neuralgia is considered by many to be among the most painful of conditions.
Well, now I know why the biteguards were so painful. And I did wear them as the dentist said I needed to so things would get better. But after tolerated them for years,I just couldn'tt anymore and then got the TN DX. I could just punch them in the nose.
Well I still have an overbit that aggravates things, but now retired paying for 30k or 40k to fix seems overwhelming. I already did the 30k .,which at the time was hard financially, but I managed to get it paid.
I do have the probelm constantly and my mouth is tense all the time,I guess from the constant pain. It's hard to keep your jaw muscles relaxes when it hurts.utimately it cause more pain. Thanks for the tip
Do you have inflamation or was this just to help you feel better with the pain. Be careful with the predisone.it is a powerful drug and make sure you keep your potassium levels up. A banana a day should do. But It can cause some real bad things that doctors take lightly when they precribe that.
I took it once and my level dropped and had to go to Er.I was feeling real bad and had apanic attack(another side affect) and my electrolytes where out of balance. ER's see a lot of that.
I hope the meds work for you without awful side affects,I try to take neurotin, but cause severe balance problems. I walk like someone with Parkinson. If I lean one way.that's the way I go.sometimes IT's funny, but also annoying.
So very sorry that you have TN. It is a real bummer, for sure. I take tegretol for mine. I've done so since diagnosed two years ago.
I've not had any success at all with home remedies. Heat, in fact, with a heating pad makes it alot worse. Warm and cold cloths do nothing for me. Oh, I forgot that a hot shower DOES SEEM TO HELP.
For bad attacks, Finegan(sp?) works well, only because it puts me to sleep. When I wake up, it's over.
There have been lots of home remedies posted around here, and I know some people swear by them. I hope people write in, and share, and that they work for you.
Sincerely,
Dulcinea2
I went to the neurologist last Wednesday and he upped my dosage of Neurontin to two 300mg pills three times a day. And it has worked surprisingly well. The pain is still there but it is no where as bad as it was. Before it felt like razor blades being sliced into my face...now it feels as if I had dental work and the Novocaine is wearing off.
I am having some minor side effects from the Neurontin but I can handle it.
I've had some help with peppermint...and I eat the peppermint candy a lot during the day....lol
