Hello All! I am a veteran to this disorder and have been reading, commenting, and checking in on this webpage for a year or more now. One thing that I've learned in reading these posts is that Trich can rear it's ugly head for the first time and repeatedly at any age and in any situation, and it can be intentional or unconscious. Personally, I notice mine increases during times of stress, around my monthly cycle, when I have some winter blues, when I need to focus on school work, and sometimes when watching television. LeAnn Rimes has a song with the lyrics "mama says idle hands are the devil's handywork oh... the trouble you'll get into..." la la la. That line sticks with me, and with that as an motivation, I want to offer a few solutions that sometimes work for me. GLOVES are your new best friend, wear them during times when you usually feel the urge to pull. I ordered some with those little pads in all the fingers so I can still operate my technology and do homework while wearing gloves. I have to fight the urge to take them off, but it's worth a little struggle. Another idea is FIDGETS FIDGETS FIDGETS. Silly putty, stress balls, tangles, one of those toys from the 90s with gel in it, fidget squares, fidget spinners, all worth a try! I buy on amazon and keep a small basket with things, easily hidden when company comes over to avoid unwanted discussion but taken back out and easily accessible for myself. I also keep a few in my purse, car, backpack, gym bag because I just never know when it's gonna hit. How can you keep your cardio-craving fingers busy and off your beautiful hairs :) Lastly, my personal favorite is to dance it out!-And interrupt those behaviors in any way I can. When I feel myself getting into a daze and the slow and ritual pulling starts, I fight my brain and stand up, walk out of the room from wherever I am, and interrupt this behavior. Taking a walk and some deep breaths can work if you're in a professional or public function, but if you're home, pop in those headphones and dance to a song that really gets you goin! Sweat a little, get your heart beating, crank out an embarrassing move and laugh at yourself. Then when you're ready to get back to whatever it was, remember that it's okay to relapse and make mistakes, we are all human and Trich is a real tough old bird and a pain in the butt to beat. But the little progresses make the struggle oh so worth it <3 I know these won't work for everyone, but I'm here to support and brainstorm other ways with you all. I also would love to learn about a few of your solutions to try out myself! For those of you who are lash and brow pullers like me, Brow and Lash Growth Accelerator by Ardell on Amazon is the cheapest one that I've found, and has my lashes currently growing in like a dang garden, which is a blessing to get the chance to try again and again with them because I've been pulling for a long time. My eyebrows may never fully grow back in the same, but this is when I thank sweet baby Jesus for makeup pencils and stencils. ;) Cheers and Love to you all!
