Hi, I'm Bailey. I have been living with trichotillomania since Kindergarten. I am finishing up my 1st semester of my 8th grade year. I'm 14. I was 5 when I began pulling my eyelashes and eyebrows out. I've tried therapy, Zoloft, and I'm currently on Prozac. None have really helped. My parents are very strict about my education.. so I've been under a lot of stress. Adding onto that, my boyfriend moved a couple months ago. I live in Georgia, he lives in New York now.
Things have been very tough. My mom just keeps yelling and yelling at me. I feel like I have lost all self-control. I can't really help my disorder. She doesn't understand at all. I wonder what she would feel like if she was me....

You could also try Inositol, an over-the-counter B-vitamin. You can find it at GNC at the mall.
Sorry things are so stressful at home! Pretty soon you'll be on holiday vacation and you'll get a nice break from school. Sounds like you could use one. *hugs*

My daughter is 12 and she's had trich since she was 7. Since you've tried Zoloft and Prozac, I assume you are working with a psychiatrist, right? Ask your doctor about trying Clomipramine (Abilify). My daughter was on Zoloft, Prozac, and lots of other meds and they did not help at all. She's been on Clomipramine since last March and she no longer pulls. It's a drug they don't want to start with, because it has side effects. My daughter got very dizzy and a severe dry mouth. You need to start on a very low dose, and go up slowly every week. The side effects went away, and so did the pulling! Not every medicine works for everybody, but I really pushed the doctor to try it after I read a book saying that Clomipramine has the best record for treating trich. I'm sorry that your mom is not being more supportive, but at least she's taking you to a doctor, so that's good. I was mad at my dad my whole life for being an alcoholic, but now that my daughter has had trich, I'm beginning to understand that he, like her, did something that you think people should be able to stop, but can't. Hopefully, if the meds work for you, your mom will be able to understand that it's the disease that makes you pull, and it's not something that you can control.
