Hi. My name is Corey and im pretty new to this whole online support group thing but i need to make some friends that understand what i go through. Im 19 years old and ive been pulling out my hair since i was 12 years old. and sometimes i go a little crazy on the brows and have to pencil them in to look fuller. But with my hair. i have to wear head band and clips just to cover the affected areas as u can see in my pictures. Thats the way i wear my hair everyday. Ive been on/off meds. Currently taking Zoloft or Sertraline since the celexa didnt do anything. Ive never met anyone or talked to anyone who has even heard of trichotillomania let alone even has it. I have been in and out of therapy. But have been for about 2 years straight now and nothing seems to work. I get so frusterated i just wanna shave it all off and possible get a wig.. and thats not something any woman ever wants to think.. Im bald and have to wear a wig. I always kept this to myself and never heard of anyone having it so i have always felt really alone. Thats why i decided to come on here. Lately i have been really researching trich because im fed up and i always thought it will go away one day. But its never feel so real until now.. going online and seeing pictures of people with hair like me. I balled my eyes out seeing that.. made me feel that much better knowing im not really alone with this.. there are people out their and they need just as much support as me.. Because once u have trich it will never go away. there is NO know cure yet. But it is treatable. it can come and go. but u always have it. But im learning now not to be so ashamed and its NOT my fault and its not anyone fault. we dont want to do it.. we hate that we do it.. and it makes us pull even more to make ourselves feel better beacsue for some reason we get some pleasure from it. i dont understand.. but if theres anyone who knows of any suport groups that i could go to in person that is in the lower mainland please. i need to meet someone in person and talk about it with someone...someone who truely understands.

I am new to the support group thing too-it really helps just to realize that other people have the same difficulties I have. I pull my eyelashes to the point where I have none left. It's stressful to me anytime my co-workers/friends look me in the eye-I hope they don't notice that all that is there is a thin line of eyeliner. Right now I am typing with tape on my thumbs (someone on here suggested that), and it has helped today. But I know what it's like to constantly feel the need to pull hair. It makes no sense and is sooo frustrating.

I almost cried reading this. I'm 20 years old and I've been doing this since I was about 11 I think. Sometimes I try to rationalize it by saying that it's similar to people biting their nails, yet this is so much more embarrassing and somewhat life changing in a way. I mean there are so many things I'm self conscious about doing because I don't want people to see the bald spots underneath. I'm not on medication, and I have good periods and bad periods. It seems every time it starts getting better it just gets worse. I think talking about it with other people who can relate might help keep me aware and motivated.
