I'm not positive but am pretty sure that my wig is made of real hair. I've never washed it before, but that's because I wouldn't wear it for long periods of time. It's also very old, so I had to treat it with great care.
What I would do is just simply use one of my many hairbrushes and gently brush the wig. I had to be careful, though, because the hair would come out if I was doing it too hard.
I'm sorry I don't have any better of advice! But hopefully you'll get plenty of other responses from the many people who also wear hairpeices. Toodles!

One thing I did read that was important is that you don't use a regular hair brush on wigs. You are supposed to get a specail one for wigs.
