Put simply they did something outside of the relationship and now you feel inadequate. That is what this boils down to. Thing about relationships is that they only work if there is trust. what this means is that you need to restore that trust. How you will do that is up to you, I cant say how you can go about that because I am not sure entirely which part was damaged. There are a good number of things going on, one being that they are 40 years old and unless they had a full hysterectomy, the baby timer is going to be ticking. it is not uncommon for Bi people (which they seem to be) to flip flop on their desires from time to time but they ALWAYS gravitate back to what they are with most often which would mean in this case you. There has to be more to your relationship than the sexual aspect and honestly that has to be enough in the end. If sex is such a large part of the relationship that it can cause such damage, there may be a much deeper issue than is in this listing. I am a MtF trans person and I have been in a relationship with one of my girlfriends for 7 years now (Ive been transitioning for almost 10). We have had sex probably a grand total of 5 times in our entire relationship and we are still together. Fact is my hormone meds make me not have a lot of drive and my dysphoria is so bad that I simply cant. She has a couple of approved ... playthings, with which she gets that element out of. that is how we work it. I trust her completely, I know her partners, I know what goes on, and they have guidelines to follow and they do. Her and I are based on a deeper connection, one that if she begins to have with the other person I already told her to go be with them. This makes the lines well defined and keeps them in check with what is going on. If your mate is going to hang around with this guy perhaps you need to find some guidelines to make it comfortable for you, need to open the relationship up so you can have side things too, or you may want to think about moving on to something that will be less damaging to you and more fulfilling. If you cant talk to your partner about it and make it right, that may be the best option. Sorry if this isn't any help, but there is a lot here that isn't seen and so I am trying to give you as much as I can. I wish you luck though.
