Working while Transitioning

Okay this is a good question, one I just had with my therapist less than an hour ago, but for those of you who have jobs and transitioned how did that affect those around you in the process. Were the people you work for understanding and how did your coworkers react?

I am currently unemployed, been a caregiver for the past few years, but something I been worried about seeing I have to rejoin the workforce (if I can find a job) and will eventually have to deal with regardless.

Initially people were a bit strange around me, but I went up and started conversations with them and they quickly went back to normal. Those who don't work with me often either still don't know or if they do they are professional about it and regardless of their opinions do their best to make me comfortable. Very few talk behind my back or say anything bad and most of the ones who have usually got a verbal lashing from someone else. About the only thing that I was not allowed to do is use the appropriate restroom until after surgery. People complained about the concept and since in my state there is no law saying I can, it means that those people could have a legal case against the company if they let me. That said they are willing to make other accommodations for me that other employees don't get with regards to that.

That is a hard one for me. As I work in the electrical engineer world with 90% men(yuk). I am not sure how and if I'll ever deal with that? I may not be able to go full-time girl until I retire.

Well I am technically transitioning, as I am am going things to feminize myself, i.e letting my hair grow, shaving my body, getting mani-pedis(with polish on the toes) all the time, .laser hair removal on face.

I wear women's clothes everyday, but they are very gender neutral, so no one really knows it. I'm not doing HRT, I would love to but can't at this time. I still need to "work" for my wife.
